[strapping young lad]

i sold an item to a person and gave positive feedback as the money was transferred within the hour (paypal)

however when i ask about my feedback (i hadnt had it for 2 weeks, and i knew the guy had the item i sent) he said that he thought i charged too much for the postage and would put this as negative feedback and said if i really wanted to, to put this on or leave it completely

i think this is really unfair (it was a landrover item and i dont think he is a mc member)

ive contacted ebay about it, is there anything i can do?

im really peeved about this guy's attitude.. it stinks

There is not a lot you or Ebay can do about it. This why I do not leave feedback untill they do.

Feedback on ebay is entirely voluntary
I wouldn't bother pushing too hard for it here cos it sounds like he will give you an unfair neg - I assume your postage costs were listed on your auction therefore if he wasn't happy with cost then he shouldn't have bid
At least you got your money (unless he tries a chargeback since he paid by paypal   :shock: )
I hope you have proof of posting ! (if so keep it safe just in case)
If he does neg you then you have the choice to leave a reply - just give a factual response and others will see your neg was unjustified
Ebay won't do anything unless his neg uses bad language in which case you can have it removed
I would move on and forget about it - in the future NEVER leave feedback for a buyer until they have received goods and have left you feedback

just to echo what others have said... never leave feedback first if you are a seller... the general rule is that buyers leave feedback when they have recieved the items and are happy with the transaction... then you as the seller leave like for like feedback...  pos for pos etc... you do still get some ar**holes about though....

From what i gather the fella has said that if you really want him to leave feedback then he will leave a negative.  As it stands he isnt leaving feedback?

Presume for a moment i am right then i applaud the buyer.  He has had a problem, could have just left a neg and be done, but he hasnt left a neg (as i say still unclear about your original post).  Were your postage costs high?  I.e. was the price he paid a little more than the postage came to?

If I have a GENUINE greivance that can't be sorted with a phone call or an email then I will leave neg feedback if I think it is deserved
Never feel blackmailed into leaving pos feedback if you feel it is not deserved just in case you get a neg in return
We all have a duty of care to warn others about the t*ssers
Retaliatory neg feedback usually only makes the giver look stupid if you give a factual response to it

this is the argument i had with one bloke i posted to him, he checked with the royal mail to see what the postage was and emaild me and said that he wanted a refund so i explaind  :roll:

It happens, dont get bent out of shape about it...some people cnat help themselves.
As far as i am concerned(330 pos feedback no neg) you can charge a little extra for time and effort, unless you took the mickey them he should post pos. Ask him if that is the real reason, you never know sometimes people are unhappy about the item or maybe get carried away at the end......this may be the case with him.
As for your comment Kenny dont see how it fits in with what has happened. If this guy has a problem with the costs surely he knew when he paid? I have had a similar with someone who said they thought it was expensive and why hadnt they received it straight away...i pointed out that it took a while to get the large item to the postoffice and i actually lost out on the postage..funny but the dick still never left feedback!!
If there is one thing you can learn its that some people like to complain and have nothing better to do. :x

The only reason I leave like for like is on the rare occasions when I get a neutral fb.. In my case I wait until I recieve fb and just give the same back.. and I totally agree with you .. all probs can be sorted by talking.. Im on 2600+ with only a handfull of negs so I must be doing something right :lol:

for what i sold it for i had to get some money back

one item i sold a LR steel rim i sold for £10 less than i bought it for as the rim had been damaged and i posted it at there cost which was quoted in the listing :lol:

And as for postage... I do three trips a day to the post office getting postage prices.. mostly U.S, Canada and Australia... and post off same day as paid for.. I make a tiny bit on postage.. and I mean tiny.. (£7.50 for a box and newspaper ?  :shock:  !  :lol: ..  sorry.. I couldnt do that ! )
 Today is a good example.. 66 parcels out £107.00  postage..
but thats only due to no post office open on monday...

i charged more than the post office charges me but

if you only charge what it cost to post then you are out of pocket since jiffy bags are over a quid each, plus the fact of getting to a post office in the first place (they arent as common as they used to be you know.)

oh by the way this guy had bought a similar item previously and the p&p was the same but didnt say owt then  :roll:

I agree, some people (like myself) need to travel 10miles+ to get to their nearest post office, so a fuel charge is understandable.

i have to agree. you gotta be mad or stupid to bid on something without looking at postage costs......i have had it myself, someone bid on my item and won and then tried to come back with "  i think you postage is to high, can you lower it "

he got the same answer as everyone gets. the price is there asoon as the item is listed. you obviously saw it so why complain after you have won the item.
my ads now all say at the bottom you are bidding to buy and not to haggle or barter.

there definatly are some tryers out there. i would just move on mate and forget about this one. i have left feeedback for some buyers and sellers but they couldnt be bothered to leave any for me. suppose its just the way it goes

the only neg feedback i got was from some idiot complaining about the postage charge

for the item i sold i charged £4:50 for postage, i actually sold 4 similar items with the same postage only one guy complained he sent e-mails saying if i didnt refund him £2 he would give me neg feedback told him the postage was fair got neg feedback checked his feedback he has got 4 negs for giving people grief over postage idi :x t

thing is ive bought something then realised the postage is more than the item but its caveat emptor

you click on buy now or you win you know what you're letting yourself in for

if not then you're too naive for ebay

The latest one is charging £1 for an item then 20 or 30 for postage.. that way ebay gets less in commission, and also charges you less...

Ive had the same grief. I try to get pretty accurate on the post costs now, and if Im way out of line I PPal the excess back. Keeps people happy.
Ive had neg feedback for a dumbass who didnt read/understand my advert(and subsequent emails)
At least you get chance to post a reply if you get neg feedback.

Some people are way too precious about these things, but if its them that have bought your item, then you need to tread carefully to avoid neg feedback.

Ill be honest, 7 quid for a secondhand box, a bit of tape, and some newspaper is steep, but if you posted the carriage at a set price they new what contract they were getting into.

No easy answer is there....!

Kenny, you sound so sceptical about what I've said that I do'nt think you believe me ! :shock: ..  I sell low weight items as a rule.... just so you do'nt doubt me I'll pm you later with a few details and you can check it out yourself.. and not all those parcels went overseas...
