Tell me more about it first as it may not be the injector pump at fault.
Also you will be paying around £150 to £250 to recon the pump.....

usally if it is the pump it would smoke more when revved (usally, not always).
what colour is the smoke? are there any other symtoms?

Nobody mention pump timing at this point. Is the motor a everyday motor or has it been stood for ages.....all very good questions what do you say Mark me old china......

if the pump timing was out the smoke would get alot worse when revved or power is applied (up hill or somthing) probibly with some miss fireing.
from the info given, dont think its the pump. i would check else where first. but having said that engines never fail to suprise me, and it might be the pump for some reason.
but your right miniman the pump is probibly the single most expensive thing to have recon'd

If its been stood for ages then the only cure for that is a good run....
My perkins had been stood for a year and it took a good few days of running to get it nice again.

I think a better explanation would help so when ya next on mate give us some more info and we will see if we can help a bit more.

If not then I am sure we can babble on and confuse you...he he

a bit of blackish smoke when powering up hill is normal, its the engine getting lots of fuel that it is burning, as oposed to white smoke which (if it not water of course) which is unburned fuel.
you say youve had the injectors done and its worse? did you have new nozles in the injectors? or just tested.
have you every had the pump off, is it timed right (as miniman said earlier)??

after the landy place timed your pump did it run alright or has it got worse?
it might be worth altering the timing. can you see the timing line on the flat side where one of the 3 fixing nuts are. it should line up exactly where the mark is on the engine. if its not lined up then alter it. if it is lined up then you can try playing about, you wont hurt anything by doing so but do make sure you can put the pump back how it was if the fault doesnt get any better. but remember only move the pump a tiny bit at a time, theres only half a millimeter between the egine running sweet and smoke.

I agree with mark , I had the same problem with a 2 1/4 . lots of smoke on tick over but none when revving . It was pump timing . A tiny turn is all it took . This was after I had the pump recon done .
I have also had the problem of the pump being as far as it will turn in the slots and not quite timed . this turned out to be the pump timing gear which had been droped in 1 tooth out . ....Al

again, what colour is the smoke ?

Black - Usually over fueled
Blue - Burning oil (rings, valve seals etc)
White - Water, head gasket ?
Green - stop filling it up with plutonium

When new pistons I presume it was honed out and the new rings fitted.
Another thing you dont think someone may have spiced ya tank for any reason. Its just a possibility

that is definatly wrong. the pump should be nearly in the middle. either the pump is faulty and someone has tryed to hide the fact with a quick fix, or as Al said the timing gear needs looking at. i think youll have to take the pump off and have it checked. we use LSUK for our deisel service, but there are loads of diesel workshops around. make sure you tell them the problems you have with it when you take it in, it gives the techs a clue on what to look for.

yes there is a keyway  on the shaft so you can't get it in wrong , but on the other end of the shaft is a gear with about 12 teeth i think ( its been a while ) it is possible to get this in the wrong place as I have done it

have you returned the pump timing to normal yet( line up the marks)
its possible some one has advanced the timing to get a bit more performance.

sounds a bit poorly. I found that my series diesel started to run badly and needed to have me change the impeller blades on the top of the pump because they had worn so bad they was not passing the fuel correctly to the injectors..... I recon it probably be a good idea to get ya self a cheep second hand pump to try or borrow one to find out if its that at fault. Why not ask on MC if there is anyone who can lend ya one in your area to try.... You will be supprised.....

Has anybody mentioned injectors in this post. If not may be they are so badly worn that its over fueling. I got a second hand set from a mate for a tenner and they improved mine at the start so I bought all new.
