Vitara - changing front diff ?
« on: May 18, 2006, 22:02:34 »
I'm waiting the arrival of my Calmini anvil axle housing and need to find a steel front diff housing to go with it.

Does anyone know if an SJ413 front diff will fit? or which Grand Vitaras have steel diffs that will fit?

I know that the XL-7 will fit but it's a bit larger and needs more modding, so I'd prefer not to use one of them.

Thanks in advance :)

Cheers Simon, the search will continue :)

Does anyone know if the front diff from an SJ413 will fit.  I realise that I'll have to contruct a 3rd member mount but 413 diffs are easier to find :)

theres no reason it wont fit as ive fitted a vitara diff in a sammy axle, but the ratios wub be different unless you swapped all the gubbins inside but then ur in the relms of new crush collers and correct torquing of the R&P

Cheers once again Simon.

I realise I've gotta change all the gubbins so that's not a problem.  I just needed to know it the steel casing will bolt onto the Calmini Anvil Axle.

Excellent news.  I've got a mate with his own garage business who can set the diff up etc.

Yahoo, I'm off to get me an SJ413 front diff

I'm confused now :)

I don't need the half shafts from either a 413 or a Sammy do I?

I'll be using Vitara halfshafts (26 spline) with Anvil axle, Vitara diff internals fitted in to a 413 steel diff casing.

Or have I got it all wrong again  :)

to be on the safe side id get a sammy diff carrier as im not sure if the 410/413 carriers are smaller
i may be wrong in the size bit but i no 100% the sammy carrier will fit into ur vitara housing ,dont want you to waste ya money.
sorry bout half shaft sizes got confuzzled my self forgot u was swapping all the gubbins

OK mate, cheers :)

I've got good access (a mate has several scrap 413's sitting on his farm :) ) to some 413 diffs so I'll give them a try 1st and see how I get on.   :D
