A – Where do the axle breathers on a standard Disco 300 TDI MK! Terminate?
B – Can I run the new ones into the air filter box?
C - Should I replace the full length of the breathers or should I just add the extra length on?
I want to do a proper job!

buy a kit from cheviot, come with all new parts so you know the jobs right...yes you can put it into the airbox but i wouldnt unless you have a snorkle ...if you managed to ingest water into the engine the axles MAY also get some ...more expense

the one onthe back axle can be feed up though the rubber sits in the o/s/r conner and up the rear panel keeping the pipe inside

Wouldn't put them in your air box, you could suck the oil up and into the engine :!: :!: :!: :!:
Just bring them up to the top of the snorkel and loop them over.
Chris
ps: Don't forget the fuel tank as it lays right on top of the tank..........

Good point, In that case I may run them into the filter box and up the inside of the snorkel just enough so they are sticking out the top. I would prefer not to have tubing on the outside of the vehicle. How about that?

Run them up to the top of the snorkel but terminate them just before they poke out.
You could always install a manifold and then run 1 pipe up the snorkle.

What diameter is the tubing that is used for the breather pipes on a Disco 97 mk1? I want to do it myself as I don’t want to do it the standard way.

I ran new breather pipes on my Disco (Tdi 1996)to the side of the air filter box.
I snipped off a small piece of the breather pipe, measured the internal size by using a twist drill and then went to my local pneaumatic supplier and bought 30m of the stuff for about £7.00.
I also cleaned out the fitting on the axle at the same time.
I had to warm the pipe up slightly to get it on to the fitting on the axle.
The size of pipe I bought had an inside diameter of 4mm.

I used aquarium pipe. It's clear so you can see if any water or much is in it and for the gearboxs I used black aqquarium pupe, the carbon content helps it stay rigid inder heat.
Depedning on what year you have most later cars have carbon canisters in the fuel tank breather system so all you need to do is keep the inlet to the can dry, it's under the bonnet anyway.
