Disco air con
« on: July 21, 2004, 00:03:55 »
Hi Guy's
I've got a 300tdi ES 95 model. when I switch the air con on the warning light on the switch stay's off and I get no power to the compressor, it is fully gassed. I've checked the air con fuses and they seem OK, is there an in line fuse hidden away somewhere ? or can anyone give me any ideas as to what the problem might be. Electrics is not my strong point.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Pat

Might be a silly answer but does the light come on when you switch the fan on, mine only functions correctly when the heater fan is working.

What about when you turn it up?
Not an expert on disco's (or anything else really) does it have re-circulation? and is it turned on. That could be your answer.
Cheers, Karl..

Is the relay working?
I think the relays on your model are behind the kick panel on the drivers side.

I'd tend to agree with Ed, It sounds like the relay might be faulty.

The Discovery workshop manual lists all the relays but there's no info in there on the air con relays other than they are there.
If it helps I can dig out my manual and list the colours that are mentioned.
I believe that it's the base where the relays are fitted that is colour coded. Is that the case with yours?

That came out as a load of Tosh.
The only info I can find on post 94 is that....

Air con compressor clutch relay is behing drivers side kick panel.
Air con logic behind the same panel.

Pre March 94 are...
Air con compressor clutch relay  Behind passenger kick plate.
Air con low speed relay   Behind Driver's kick panel
Air con Medium speed   Behind Driver's kick panel
Air con fresh air solenoid relay Passenger kick panel. Inner red connector
Air Con heater relay  Passenger kick panel outer red wiring connector
Air con blower motor relay Driver's kick panel below the main relay bank

see if that helps.

Thanks Ed
Looks like I've got a lot of sorting to do, from the info you gave me I have a feeling that mine could be a bit of a mongrel ( pre and pro 1994 )
I have as a temp. measure got it working by running a live through a 5 amp fuse to the compressor clutch and all appears to work OK, well it did on a trip to Mablethore on Sunday, but I don't like the small light switch that I've got on top of the dash to switch it on and off!!!! I'll let you know how things go, but it could be a while with my electric expertise.
Cheers
Pat
