OOPS, Gearstick trouble
« on: June 06, 2006, 11:21:41 »
Imagine

Pulling away from lights, shift to 2nd, then to third and in between 2nd and third...

the gearstick fell off, leaving me holding it looking puzzled and Drutt trying hard not to laugh at me. It was off-putting to say the least.

It slips back in but its happened twice now so anyone have any ideas on whats under that second boot that might be knackered?

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

It should be a simple fix :)

Under the second boot is a bayonet fixing for the gearstick.  It's just like a bayonet lightbulb fixing.  When you have the boot off you'll see what I mean :)

To remove the bayonet, push down and twist it anti-clockwise.  Reverse for fitting.  I'm pretty sure that yours will have come undone by itself.

Under the round bayonet is a spring which can break. :( that's probably what the problem is :(
