Radio and Clock not working Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
« on: June 07, 2006, 15:51:10 »
Yeah so, as I said, for some reason they are both not working.

What does it mean that both are not working?

I think the problem happened after I removed the radio and pushed it back into its housing. So I imagine there is a loos connection somewhere.

BUT THE KEY POINT IS THAT THE RADIO AND THE "CLOCK" are not working. If I have created a loose connection by pulling the radio out, then how come the clock is affected? I have checked the fuses.

Where should I look next? I do want to avoid having to remove the whole console! EEEEK

Thanks

where is the aux fuse located? Is it the on that is wired to the back of the radio, like 5 cm from the radio? Becasue I have checked that one.

I dont know about in a disco but a lot of radios share a fuse with a clock or interior light.  Should tell you on the plastic cover on your fuse box which one it is.

there is a fuse box in the engine bay and under the steering wheel, any idea which one? In any case they all seem to be ok.

Electrics in a serviceable condition work when volts are applied.
If the clock and radio have worked however briefly then you can forget fuses.

Look for:

Bad earth connections
Dodgy connections to clock/radio/both (they both have a 12V "always on" feed which may be shared, and I bet they share an earth)
Dry solder joints
Worn/scarred insulation on wires causing shorts or voltage drops to earth.
Worn multiplug connectors - or badly connected ones

Unfortunately a problem like this has no easy diagnosis - clean and refit the earths, chase the power wires back to a known good source and check EVERYTHING along the way.
H19 MJO - 200 Tdi "Elmo" still and always a "work in progress" ;)
