Diff or what??
« on: June 15, 2006, 20:20:44 »
Evening all, Just recieved a call from a mate (also another m/c member) who lost all propulsion on the way home tonight, the vehicle is a 200 tdi disco on a j plate from memory, manual box,  The story begins,  Pulling away from junction quite  normally, and sudden loss of drive with no real noise to speak off, got it recovered home,   if gears are selected either in diff lock or not no drive,  the front prop turns but thats about it, stripped out the off side front outer drive shaft, ok , puled off the whole corner and the inner driveshaft is intact, does this piont to the front diff?? i were guessing the transfer box is also shot as i believe even without a front prop attatched if diff lock selected it will still provide drive??

Many thanks for any pointers recieved, i shall be online for a while tonight as trying to sort it out for the weekend,  when the problem is diagnosed i/we shall be after blagging/buying/sourcing the nessacary parts to fix,,,Many thanks

is it the same in hi and low on the box ?

with diff lock in and a single diff down you should be able to get it limped home.

if difflock is selected you should get drive out to both front and rear axles if you got no drive to either then maybe the output shaft splines have failed? on the transfer box gear
