« on: July 29, 2004, 16:33:53 »
This is a rocker at the top of a Submarine engine,
To give you an idea of just how big this engine is
the rocker is about two foot long...

It's a straight twelve cylinder deisel engine and there
are two of this fitted in the Submarine I went in.

Bet the Mechanic's got a BIG TOOLBOX..

You think that's big!  Check this baby out.  It has a crank case with access ladders inside it!

Wonder if I can make it fit my Series.

WOW! That is simply a work of art. It would be nicer to look at in the Tate than some of the c**p they display!

I had the pleasure of seeing one of them in build on a recent trip to Japan and they are HUGE. It's got a 2.5m stroke and 98cm bore. The air charger alone is bigger than my garage and it does a whopping 120 rpm. They don't use a gearbox, just a direct coupling to the prop. IIRC it stood about 40ft high and weighed about 2000 tonnes.

From what I could understand it was destined for some super tanker that 'another part of the buisness' was building.

I never found out how they got it out the building, though. They only had a 500t crane............

It's alledged to be the most fuel efficient, oil burning prime-mover available, but I'll be sticking to me 300tdi, I feel......
