Oh no, not again......   Its like all the press that led to the dangerous dogs act a few years back (when no actually legislation hit the breeds responsible for the outrage but succeeded in outlawing breeds which hadn't hit the headlines).

Thats why it makes me feel so sad and disappointed - with the press and so many of 'joe public' who read all that tripe and believe it.  :(

"Here's a popular bandwagon, lets jump on it...."

Wish they would jump under a bus instead - they are awfully unfriendly to pedestrians - as would be vouched for by the families of the victims.

So, lets ban buses!

Of course this is just my private opinion,

I don't buy papers either.  It is mostly made up stories, so why line someones pocket with my hard earned pennies, when I can make up stories myself if I wanted to.

The editorial address  is letters@independent.co.uk

I suggest writing in to them rather than "preaching to the choir" here.  As a tip, please try to keep letters short, and with a clear message, and they're more likely to get published.  PM me with a draft if you want any comments on a letter before sending it.  I'm not a press agent, but I've got a good track record at getting motoring related letters published in the local papers.

Why don't we all just go out and drive a Trabant!

I think this is fast becoming an apropriate vehicle for the UK.

If only the fuel economy was better!

Do Trabants come from POLAND as well. Sorry racist comment - that should read a country that is not BRITISH and has a different red/white flag. CRAP.

I'm sure it's based on a survey.  Of 20 4x4 owners in Chelsea.  One of them had got it muddy once, so "5% of 4x4s are taken off road".

Let's do our own survey. :-) http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=25452

How many people buy sports cars and actually race them legally?

How many people buy Sports bikes and actually race them legally?

This is balls...but we dont need to justify our existance. We own and drive our 4x4's because we can....simple as that :x

The anti's would claim that "because you can" doesn't mean you SHOULD.  (Don't shoot me, I'm playing devils' advocate here).

Me? I'm waiting to hear of someone being made to remove an anti 4x4 sticker from their car before someone will pull them out of a ditch. :-)

isnt it about time we all stood together and did something about this, do we not have amongst us someone who can get us the "real" statistics so that we can use them against those who wish to make us all out to be planet killing child murdering 4x4 drivers. I mean go to any 4x4 show and see the number of people there we are a strong force if we mobilise together, instead of all shouting at different times.

Quote from: "article"
The researchers found drivers of 4x4s were almost four times more likely to be seen using hand-held mobiles. They were also less likely to use seat belts.

So it's only a presumption as the researchers are only presuming we are likely to carry out these acts. Why are they so afraid to publish the actual figures of 4x4 drivers (out of the 3,000) they saw using mobile phones and not wearing seat belts.

They made it a criminal act to say a black person was more likely to mug you because of the colour of their skin because this was not fact. The government bought laws in about prejudice actions but it seems they're the biggest offenders

The vehicles were monitored for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening during weekdays. More than 38,000 vehicles were studied, including almost 3,000 4x4s
Hmm wonder where the 3 points they monitored from were??????
and so 10 percent were 4x4's.. what were the other 90%???
also like the wording..OVER 38000 and ALMOST 3000.. hmm vague as a vague thing in a vagueness competition!!!
like saying, a 4x4 killed a fox, so we dont need fox hunting now as 4x4's are killing fox's off!!!

i drive about 80 miles a day to work and back in my disco and most people i see using mobiles drive lux saloons. perhaps they sat outside a play day and counted. and as for seat belts well that would be the little chavs and chavettes driving around thinking they're indestructable in there corsas and saxos.isn't it time these idiots found something else to moan about like the colour of grass or why the sky is blue
