Td5..... Jumped Out Of High Range! Twice
« on: June 28, 2006, 21:04:02 »
I test dove a Disco Td5 Auto today, Really nice miles, condition, fully stamped book (more than needed)!

BUT

As you do I put it in Low Range...... needed to make sure all was ok, and it was, back to High range and 200 yds down road was a roundabout, I stopped and when I went to pull away, the transfer box was in Neutral! so I pulled the lever back and off I went......

At high speed to stopped off a dual carriage way to another roundabout I came to another stop, and yet again it poped into neutral.....

Before all this I'de done about 10 miles and all was fine....

Apart from Walk Away (quickly) any idea's....

The car had done 47k and was fresh as a daisy underneath (dirty not muddy) and it has 7 stamps....

att

My tdi auto does it, you have to roll the vehicle while pushing the lever so it goes all the way in or it jumps out usually when you pull up to a junction or slow down.

Awwww . . . . and I thought mine was something special when it jumps gear.

Gentle application of the clutch while in a driving gear and holding the tranny box lever in whatever position usually ensures it stays put.

usually this is a symptom of lack of use or wrong adjustment, but probably lack of use in this case. When you are putting it back into high it's not properly engaging and as soon as you put some heavy torque through it, it pops out.

With the wheels moving at a few mph, slip auto into neutral and then put it in to low or high. Keep using it like this for the first couples of weeks and the linkage will loosen up so that it's fine.

Cheers

Steve

I always have trouble getting my hi / low box in and have to do it whilst on the move (1mph) and then it goes in lovely. If I am stationary it doesnt like it.

I have never had it jump out though.
