Blue Badge Abuse
« on: June 28, 2006, 22:17:44 »
This makes my Blood boil.

Had a delivery to do in Chiswick high street, so got the pub and there was a Volvo parked in front of the cellar hatch, with a blue badge in the window.
so we pulled away to do another account down the road, came back twenty minutes later and a different car was there so went to the next account on our list.,
On the third attemp as we were about to turn in to the road where the hatch was, a car pulls in, so I jump out to ask the driver to park over the other side of the road, He says he cant as there are double yellows that side, I tell him that he can park that side with no problem, he again refuses to move. as he places a Blue Badge on the dash I tell him I have a blue badge at home and know that you can park for up to 3 hours on single and double yellow lines where there are no other restrictions.

He still cant seem to understand what Im telling him and I begin to dount his parents were married. I give up and tell him he's an idiot, walk away to explain to the landlord of the pub that because some idiot wont move his car they wont be getting their beer delivery.
As I get back in the truck the idiot is tell me I'm a disabled idiot ( Blue badge is for my mother).

Oh and he's asking me to get out of the truck and fight him,
there was me thinking he had a disablity.

His last insult was to call me Fat, now that really hurt and I asked him if there was any other cutting remarks he would like to make as I was feeling really wounded by being call Fat. We drove off.

My driver was surpizes that got back in the truck without laying the guy.
out first.

Anyway I dont think he should have been using the badge, and wish I had taken his reg number and reported him to the council for Badge abuse.

Rant over.
and relax. :D
Cheers.

Ask the landlord to park his vehicle there prior to your next delivery (thats if he's allowed to).

A pub in Earl Shilton puts cones out, to stop parking, when his delivery is due.   :D

What a Beep, no need for all that.
Hate people who abuse blue badges, also people who park in mother and child spaces in a carpark and get out with no child. When I have to find a space miles down the other end.

Hide down the street until you see him about to drive off, then block him in & start the delivery, but dont rush - just point out to all the other irate motorists your reason for not being able to park properly :)

I stopped a young man in the Ikea car park last time we were there, as he was parking in a parent and child space with not a child in sight!  He said his child was in store already with his parents, as he had dropped them off at the door.  I told him if that was the case then fair enough, but if it wasn't then he shouldn't be parking there as it pees me off that people continually park in the spaces and have no right to, when we do!!!!!!!

Also old people like to park in the spaces allocated for people with children!  That annoys me too!  Do they not understand there is a reason for the wider spaces - it is to stop kids like Conner slamming his door into their car door as he opens it, for space to get child seats out too and for room to get pushchairs alongside vehicles!!!!!!!!!!

PARK WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PARK.

(Blimey I am doing a lot of complaining of late)

I have also found with my local Tesco that the staff use the disabled bays as a staff car park at night.  They arent supposed to, complain to the manager, it goes to how it should for 2 weeks then they start parking in it again.

The double yellow line law for parking with a blue badge is a bit iffy, i am not excusing the pillock for his attitude, but if parked on a double yellow line and there is a disabled bay free (this only has to be when the traffic warden walks past after you have parked your car and left it) then he can ticket you.

Also was reading somewhere (possibly on here) or heard on the radio how someones elderly disabled mother was fined for putting her blue badge the wrong way round!  Now thats bad!

Another one was my local tesco fined a disabled driver £60 for parking in the disabled bay for longer than 3 hours, she had severe breathing difficulties and it took her 4 hours to do her shopping on her own as she had to keep taking breaks and sit down.  The management never did waive the fine even though it was proven she was still in the store and not someone who parked there and then went elsewhere!

as far as I know though, tesco etc car parks are private land and there is nothing to stop you parking in disabled bays/child bays (besides irate pensioners and mothers!!)

My local asda got some disability friendliness award a while back because their trolley staff approached non-disabled people etc  and politely asked them not to park there.

theres  a big shopping centre between plymouth and exeter in devon that employeed a guy to patrol the disabled bays and stop people who where not entitled to park there.
My dad used to have an orange badge before he passed away (this was some time ago) and was speaking to the guy one day and asked him if he ever got any abuse/agro and not a day went by with out him getting thretened or getting abused by idiots trying to park in disabled bays when not entitled

It can be an on going thing, on private land the supermarkets wont normally do anything to enforce their markings

But on a public highway around here in nottingham if there is a disabled bay and someone parks in it with out a badge they will be ticketed, I once forgot to display mine with my father, and had a ticket when we got back

They were ok about it though, I explained to the guy who gave me the ticket, and he told me to contact the number on the ticket, did that later explained the mistake and they took the badge number then told me that they would waive the charge and sent a letter out to confirm this

The trouble might be because there are so a high proportion of disabled parking bays to normal parking spaces and people get fed up with this. Then unfairly the disabled badge holders get the flak for this when its not their fault but I guess government rules.

I dont quite understand this, are you saying there are too many disabled bays?  As it stands there isnt enough, they need more.  People are parking in stupid places because there isnt enough of the bays.

At Asda at fossepark in leicester there is approx 20 disabled spaces and less than half mother and child spaces, how does that work then? because they are always full and the disabled spaces empty.

Here's a question:

Why are Mother & Child bays near the door?

Disabled yes as restricted movement but a kid doesn't hamper the ability to walk.

Put them on the other side of the car park and they won't get abused.

My problem is not so much disabled bays but the width of bays, my father is wheel chair bound , and to get me out of one side and him with a wheelchair down the other side for him means in a normal bay dont work with most bays, even some disabled bays are only normal width and it gets to the point to park further away sometimes cause of the width, normally if I do that I get a car parked next to it when I get back

The situation about empty disabled bays must go by area, in my area they are never empty.

Also the bit about moving parent and toddler parking (as this is actually what it is, not parent and child parking) i would say being close to the door is a must.  I dont have kids of my own but helping a friend of mine with her 2 toddlers and going shopping was a nightmare, i wouldnt move it far away at all!

At least your not one of the mothers I've come across who think the disabled spots are overspill for parent & child parking.

One woman was incensed at my suggestion that at least she had a choice about her disability (kid), she could have crossed her legs. She turned this colour... :troll:
