transfer box question
« on: July 05, 2006, 21:38:27 »
i have finalt diagnosed the tamberine sound \:D/ , its only took me 12 months

the front prop ( not the handbrake end ) between the 4 bolts and the box itself is the shaft for the drive. this slides through a thin piece of metal similar shape to a "top hat" that sits in the box itself. well...its loose and spins round with the prop, question is whats it for? is it just a dust cover for a seal?

regards

lee

Sounds like the mud shield on the transfer box output.

Not very expensive, and worth replacing

Any decent parts place should be able to do it for you... the main agent price on it might not be all that much different, I don't have a pricelist to hand else I'd look it up ;-)

It stops muck from getting to the seal, so it's worth doing.   If you are going to be in a lot of sludgy wet mud then I'd do it.  Last mud I saw at Bramcote was very sandy and fairly abrasive, so anything you can do to keep it away from your seals would be a bonus !
