well it had to be changed so i could have peace of mind for another 50 thou miles
i ordered the kit in from m and m 4x4 (all bearmarch stuff)
started on monday eve after work
removed the fan and cowling
put disco in low ratio with diff lock on undid the crank pully bolt which was very easy to undo
then came to removing the crank pully itself some twonk had secured it with  locktight
homemade puller bent had to heat with a propain torch and make a puller out of a gearbax flange and pull it off every last inch
replaced timing belt tensioner and pully
total time off the road 4 days
locktight goes on the bolt not the pully :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):  :(bigangry):

yes, but by putting locktight on the pully aswel, it solves the problem of brocken keyways and scrap cranks
even on 300's it still sometimes happens

I think you'll find that the LR workshop manual recommends you do this.

Who did it for you Mike? and how much?
I have been quoted £160 inc bits by a bloke from the dealers who dose them at home
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it

Yours is a 300tdi isnt it?  Is that a bigger job than a 200?.  A local mobile mechanic did mine, I will get you his number if you want.  I know him so will find out what he would charge someone else.  I would guess around the £80 mark for labour.  I got the kit with rollers / tensioners and a water pump as well as there was a tiny bit of play in mine.  Having said that the bits must come to about £80 (i cant remember exactly, ordered them weeks before) + water pump.  Ã‚£160 for a dealer mechanic sounds quite reasonable.

I was very impressed with the job he did though, came back with a list of little thngs he noticed that I may want to do in the future.  He also did my missus V6 vectra that nobody really wanted to do.

Our local dealers (who have just changed hands again) are crap, the kit I bought came without water pump or timing cover gasket.  I tried to order the gaskets from the dealers, had the pump one in stock for a quid.  The other one he didnt have and said he could only get me a pack of 10 :o

He wasnt prepared to keep 9 in stock, says they never sell 200tdi stuff anymore.  I deal with ford / vauxhall / nissan / fiat parts departments every day and have never come across that before.  I rang the other day for a timing belt for a 1.8 freelander (hardly rare) and they needed  4 days to get me the belt.  Every motor factors in the damn country could get me one quicker than that.

I hate main stealers.
