Cab Heater
« on: July 13, 2006, 15:11:59 »
Just brought a Eberspacher heater (D1LC) for the landy, dose anyone have any recommendations on where to fit it?

I was thinking under the drivers seat but, don't fancy drilling two big holes in the seat box. Because it's a station wagon my options are somewhat limited.  Anyone else fitted one?

Only problem is its 24 volt. Just waiting for the 12 - 24 volt converter I brought to arrive.

This is the unit.

Matthew

Under the middle seat if it'll fit then run the tube out (Or even do away with the seat if you don't need it) I'm in a similiar predicament that I have a CD Autochanger coming soon, and with it being a CSW no idea where to fit the damn thing.

MT

I've got one of those in the 110 (hard top) - it's fitted right in the back nearside corner,  (so the exhaust pipe runs out through the floor and sits on top of the 'real' tail pipe. According to various websites I've trawled, you can 'duct' the heat all over the place, they sell 'y' and 't' pieces and lengths of ducting to allow for multiple outlets !

Did you get instructions with the heater ? - any chance of a copy/scan ?

Thanks
Jim

Piece of cake to fit, and there are instruction manuals all over the net, google for them or i'll try and dig them out.

The best place to fit one, is just behind the cubby/centre seat, in front of the bulkhead (if you have one, or removal bar if you dont.)

The floor is double skinned in places here but the gap is only about 2mm from memory so treat it as one. Drill inlet and exhaust holes, and of course mounting holes, and bolt down with supplied rubber gasket seal. Then from under vehicle you can easily attach the exhaust, and route it along chassis to edge of vehicle, dont forget to have a downward angle to prevent water entering and/or allowing it to exit. Do the same for the inlet but route it backwards and to opposite side of vehicle.

The fuel feed, well mine came off an extra range tank with a T-piece, fed along the chassis, through the ticker pump and to the eberspacker, i ran teh control cables to the little box of tricks through another grommited hole in the floor near the heater.

Mount the thermostat/timer whereever you like inside, and dont forget to attach the outlet hose or youll cook the passenger seat, itll draw air from the other end behind the drivers seat.

Thats it, simple really :)

Thanks for the replies, After alot of head scratching, I think ill mount it under the second row seats, will have to build a steel box to protect it though.

Just waiting on a service kit for it hasn't been serviced by the previous owner, the glow plug screen was well and truly stuck in the unit with carbon build up, so completely striped the unit and cleaned the combustion chamber.

Very simple design inside, not many parts.

make sure your converter is up to it... :?  as these draw high current (25 Amps on a 12 volt one) on pre-heat but couple of amps or so one running depending on fan speed
