Well I may be the owner of Surf, but this is not one of those usual mick taking posts.

Driving (ok I admit it crawling - %$&&^%&^% road works) along on the M25 last night saw a wonderous sight !!!

An early LR (Headlights in the central grill rather than the wings) towing a Ren**lt Espace on a trailer !!!

Isn't it great to see how reliable French cars can be ?

I've yet too come across any vehicle that can not in some way break down (useually at a most inconvinient time) and i've yet to come across a vehicle that is as easy to repair as hoped :( .

At home over the years we have had a nice selection of motor cars from various nationaitys

British/Italian (2x rrc VM)
British/American (2x rrc v8 )
British/Japanese (rover 200)
German (VW golf)
French (pug 405)
German (merc G wagon)
German (2x audi 100)
French (citron BX)
German (VW caddy)
British (countless seires LR)
Japan (mitsi colt)

This is just a short list, but the one thing all the above cars have in common is that they have all broken down at least once if not multiple times. B****r.

Aye, it just shows that it dont matter what country the car comes from, the Land Rover will always be able to tow it home!

But jap crap is still jap crap!!!

we have got an espace and its never let us down - nigly little things but no show stoppers.

my LR has been the most unreliable car I have ever had , but then again its the only motor that gets driven and abused the ways it does.

but what i will say is that when it does break you can normally still get it home under its own steam.

I think it's the luck of the draw. My colleague at work has had an S reg Scenic for years and it has never let him down. Renault seem to regularly hit the bottom of the tables for reliability, but his experiences don't bear that out.........

Of course, now I've said this in public he will ring in Monday saying he's broken down!!!

Still, I do think the sight of an old car towing a newer one is excellent! After I 'invested' in the LR, my wife bought a nearly new Seat Arosa becasue she thought we should have a reliable car too....... It broke down twice within 3 weeks. And both times we had get a taxi home to get the 110 to tow it

Mmmm, mine must be exceptionally good Jap Crap as every time I"ve been out with the guys one of the Landies has broken down (one burst into flames!) but for some strange reason my little Suzuki has never missed a beat and gone everywhere that all the rest go (including Chapel Gate!).

Just curious, why call them Jap Crap when they clearly are not?.

Had my paj for nearly 3 years, not once let me down, no major repair costs only normal servicing 8)

I can only speak from experience, i guess there are some unlucky jap owners out there, but im sure its really no different to landrover owners. :P

The one thing I like about old LR products is that they are relativerly nice to work on and this seems to go for cars like fords as well. Compare this to the jap cars ive worked on and the experiances of mechanics that have worked on them, they tend to be swines to fix. Having said that of what i have seen of suzukis, the SJs don't look to bad to work on.

It doesn't matter how much you spend either I passed a new Bentley Continental today parked up under a motorway bridge today.
Stood next it was a man with a Laptop and lead trailing into car and a very angry looking woman giving him loads of grief.

I have been through this Brit/Jap crap thing with Bikes, back in the 60/70s
when the Japanese started to flood the country with their bikes -all the talk was of Jap crap wont last etc- well where are the Brit bike makers now? we have the Triumph -Kawasaki copy and thats it,
As for today saying Jap crap is just blind silly the Lexus is as good as any
VW Rolls/Royce if not better- and the Japanese 4/4s go where anyother 4/4 goes -ask the Taliban! They love the Hi-lux gun ship, and the tiny SJ Suzuki rules RTV trials , No take the Japcrap thing with a pinch of salt -but dont get the salt too close to the Landy chassis,

We owned a renault espace for 12 months, in that time it had 2 DRIVE SHAFTS, ALL ENGINE MOUNTS, 2 CAM BELTS, 1 HEAD SKIMMED PLUS VARIOUS OTHER BITS AND BOBS,  was actually on the road for a little over 4 months, as when parts went they were usually main dealer only, which meant  a lengthy wait for stuff to arrive and a very big bill at the end of it! sold it after 12 months for a huge loss just to get rid of it!!

i`ve got british jap crap, but it never lets me down, 2.8tdi frontera. only once has it failed and that is due to vauxhall running steel fuel pipes where they can rot out. but that can happen on any vehicle jap, british, fffrench :( , german, they all succumb eventually to tin worm somewhere.
