As some of you know the turbo went on me rangie Tuesday night.  So i spent yesterday morning phoning around and finally found someone who had one for the VM 2.5 TD engine!  Only he is by Gatwick Airport and i am in the Lakes!

So quick phonecall to DHL and have booked a collection from him to deliver to me, got in before the cut off time so ready for delivery today.

I phone the chap (Range Rover Spares in Polegate for anyone who wishes to use him as he has been brilliant) this morning to find out if it was collected and get the consignment number so i can trace it.  It turns out he has been trying to ring me since 6pm last night (16 messages on me answerphone, i didnt know i had any cos with broadband talk from BT you dont get the intermittent dial tone when you have messages!) cos DHL didnt bother turning up.  He contacted local depot and everything cos he couldnt get hold of me (as the DHL customer it was down to me to do all the calling) to find out they didnt bother picking it up as they didnt have anyone in the area!

Now they had rang him at 2pm (i had rung at 10 mins to 2pm to complete the order, 10 mins before their cut off time) to ask him for directions to where he was!  

So after failing again to get hold of me this morning he took it upon himself to drive the package 25 miles on country roads to the depot in the hope it could be gotten here any quicker.

It couldnt, after shouting matches with DHL head office (i swear their male call centre staff are just after a slagging match when you phone) i finally get a lovely young lass called Stacey who has only been there a week and suggests i contact the collecting depot to see what has happened and to see what they are going to do!!

So finally i get a call from the local depot and its the depot manager.  He admits it was totally their fault without a doubt.  They cant however send it by same day service as its a seperate entity to dhl domestic, he has been in contact with them however and the reason they cant do same day is because of the distance, so instead they are sending it out pre 10am next day and refunding me all costs.

This has now cost them in excess of £60 all because a driver wouldnt go back to the area (cost of a maximum of about £15in fuel) to collect it.

So from one crap company (DHL) to a good company Range Rover Spares.  They are in the back of LRM amongst the private classifieds with a yellow add.  The fella is Chris and i would recommend anyone with a Range Rover who needs parts to contact him first, cos he has been a diamond throughout.  He has gone above and beyond what he needed to do in order to try and get this parcel to me as quick as possible.

So Chris if your on these forums massive thankyou from me :D

Chris's contact number for parts is 07960964699 and i would say he isnt too badly priced either.  He doesnt mind packing stuff as long as you organise the courier.  And he has everything for a Range Rover either off the shelf or in the yard.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

The missus had to get a small package to America within 2 days. Rang them a couple of time to check it all out and make sure they could do it.

On the morning the package need to go, they refused to handle it because we didn't have an account & it would take 6 Weeks to set one up.

Rang Fedex and they were great, no problems. Picked it up that morning and have used them ever since!!

Well if it wasnt so desperate then i would have used Parcel 2 Go which is a seperate company but part of DHL.

I can understand a driver not going back because they pay them by the parcel at a rate of about £2. They are usually subcontractors that make their money through volume of parcels. Dhl are rubbish though and their attitude towards customers stinks :!:

The problem with that is the cut off point for domestic collections is 2pm, so if he does an area in the morning and then doesnt go back to it then dhl are in fact breaching contractual terms?

if he,s in polegate its not near gatwick  :shock:  its about 5 mins from me and the nearest dhl depot is in the industrial estate 2 mins from me :?  if i,d known i could have maybe helped out matey :wink:

I did think about asking you Neal, but the problem is i needed the part before we go to wales, cos i couldnt ask anyone to help me fit it when at wales when we are all sposed to be enjoying ourselves! lol

And i know its not right next to Gatwick, i am from Sussex meself originally, but for those who are virgins to Sussex Gatwick is the nearest known point! lol
