Bad garages

I noticed that we have a section on the forum for good services, but would it not serve us well to have a section for bad experiences with garages?  Not name calling or owt, just a plce where an individual can air his grievance about said place??

The decision to not have a complaints section was taken as it could potentially leave the owners of the site liable to legal action.

So it's not going to happen.

My personal view (am not trying to cause an argument) is that even though this is in print it could just be classed as word of mouth, therefore there would be no liable people.  Also sure when you join mud club there is a disclaimer and a passage that talks about the views in this forum not being those of mud club but of the individuals who use them?

So anything on here that you say about xyz racing being poo is classed as slander.

Totally, cos as a group of like minded enthusiasts we should be able to share experiences of service wether good or bad, whats worse is they dont mind word of mouth if its good, its just if they have [!Expletive Deleted!] up they dont want the world knowing about it :(

Forgot to add, what if i didnt actually name the company?  I.e. just said it was a company in a certain town purverying a certain type of item?  That way i am not naming the company but people will be able to deduce who the company is!

What if I recommended a garage and they turned out to be rubbish. will have to take a loan and get a good legal team together? Does it go both ways...(again just interested in an interesting debate)

Wolfie get off ya box, firstly this is just a debate, its not against founders of this site or anything else so there was no need for that type of comment.  As stated we arent trying to cause an argument, we are just having a debate, or is that something the founders didnt want either??

I have the utmost respect for the club and members who have helped me out many times... Like i said just interested . I dont the club to be sued for liable. I just wodered how it all worked . Has there ben a case where a club like ourselves have been sued?

ive as much legal knowledge as my pet cat but common sense tells me that because the website shows slanderous comments, be they true or not, the judge will decide, is no different than if you wrote an article to a 4x4 magazine or something saying the same thing.

how often do you see newspapers paying out money cos they were sued for saying something about a company or person.

this is no different.

what you say face to face to another is theoretically a private conversation and cannot be proved (i think) but written down is hard evidence.

if you have suffered gross injustice or misservice by a garage then do something about it legally by using trading standards or something, venting your anger online wont help you nor anyone else.

I made an agreement to remove the sticker after I was taken out and the facts explained. They knew and I knew what had happened and why I had the sticker. I was also told to remove it from the internet. I still sell a variation on the sticker......but not the original which named the garage.

Personally I don't care; I am sure that if it ended up in court it would all be very interesting[; I have a lot of subjects that I would like to see tried in court just for the interest factor.

The moderators don't want the risk of court; sounds fair to me. I don't post that much but I read M/C a lot and think it is a superb site; if the guys who give up thier time and skills to keep it going for free don't want to include anything thats good enough for me.

tbh i found the best garage for me was this local guy that does all the taxis outta and as a hobby works on American and stuff for fun.

The suspension mount on the rear axle had a hole in it to drain out water, this was clodded and it was rotting, got a new one welded on and sealed for 80 quid ;) just coz he loved the car.

I usually use the try once routine and try a garage once and onto next one if it was no good. Fair enough might cause more trouble, but you will find one eventually.

I agree, when you find a good garage/mechanic... stick with them .

Ive found Main Dealerships to be the ones to steer clear of, due to incredibly poor workmanship/standards.

I know a guy who runs an estate agency (it will remain nameless!), he used to work for another one nearby. When he started up, his previous boss got someone to shove a load of his leaflets saying "if you want to sell up your business ....... give great finance" down his air conditioning vents, ruining them & costing 0000's to put right, attempted to destroy his website with viruses etc etc. He replied by starting a leafleting campaign slagging the company off & it esculated

Dont know if garages would like to spread rumours about each other on the internet? Would be kinda fun but probably not a great idea

I do have a thing or two to say about a certain independant land rover garage though!

My answer to this mail is simply this: if you have serious and genuine issues with the way this club is run or moderated, then you don't have to contribute.   However, I'm sure you do wanna post, so lets look at ti from a mods point of view.

You asked a question. It got answered, the debate seemed to be why it was a bad decision, nowt more. At least that is how it was coming accross. Wolfie, I assure, meant no offence, but at least got your attention as intended.

We don't go out seeking to get up folks noses!
