At the moment my jack is mounted on my front bumper, but it's slightly vunerable there and reduces the aproach angle. It won't fit neatly anywhere inside, and I need the roof clear for my kayaks. Can anyone sugest a new mounting place for it.

Team wrangler have one mounted on the bonnet, where the windscreen rubbers are.

Have a look here, there are a couple of options and mounting brackets.

Humm.........
On a Cherokee, the options are limited if you don't want to put it on the roof.
You could try making some brackets to mount it oposite the spare in the boot at an angle.
Most people I've seen either mount them to the roof bars, or to the side of a proper roof rack. The rack option might be the best for you since you need to put kayaks on the roof.

It could work, but you'll make the bonnet very heavy to lift. I'd check how it effects your forward vision too.
On Wranglers and CJ's they mount them to the bonnet hinges, not on the bonnet itself. S'a shame the scuttle panel on an XJ is plastic, cos that would be an ideal place for it.

Decided to mount it on the bonnet nearest to the windscreen. Made up some brackets and on it went, no problem. Doesn't make the bonnet any heavyer to lift as it's in line with the hinges, and I think it looks pretty dam good!
