help, cant get the bonnet up on my defender.
have tried leaning on it while someone pulls the release lever which did not work. the lever moves 1/4 inch then is solid.
any ideas that dont involve crowbars or hammers?
it has chequer plate on the wing tops which may be pushing the bonnet up, not sure

Take the grill off then you will be able to pull the lever by hand from underneath to get the bonnet open. The mechanism might just want a clean up and regrease.

Whilst it's open (using the above method or reaching in through the grill and yamping on the cable if you're fingers are thin enough) - check the bolts that hold the release mechanism to the slam panel (i.e where the bonnet fastens down). They could be loose, which can cause some problems.

Cheers

Mine is a knightmare too. Saw J99mud have a little piece of wire which he pulled from between the grill and then tucked away. seemed like a good idea. My only worry does it make the defender more nickable? It takes 2 people to open my bonnet. A real Pain!

How do you mean? Does the lever inside the cab not even move or does it just not feel like it's connected to anything?

Incidentily mine pops up perfectly, hell of a clang to shut it again though.

You pull the lever, which is very stiff. It does give a bit. But the bonnet doen't pop up. You need a second person to wigggle the bonnet very hard to release it. A real pain in the ARS*

Would it be possible to trace the wire and see if it is sagged / frayed somewhere. or maybe give it all a good spray of WD-40.

just remembered that it needs an MOT this month as well so they can have a look at the bonnet while there.
also getting the steering and suspension bushes done as well with regards to my earlier topic of a banging defender.
