One thing it does do is keep the blazeing sun from perishing the tyre and possibly from explodeing when parked for long periods in direct sunlight,

Also if you have a new spare tyre on it, and its an expensive one, it cant be seen, also another obstacle to removing the wheel

It keeps the spare clean. So you only get half as dirty if you have to change a wheel.

I read a recent article in the motoring press on the subject.

There is an issue with deterioration of spare tyres caused by the heat generated by both direct sunlight and that reflected off the rear window.

A wheel cover will protect your spare from this!

To have a huge sicker saying 'Get off my a$$'  for green oval drivers :)

Oh and to fill up with nice, thick, sludgey mud.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

To collect water and rot / corrode the wheel and tyre if you don't fit them properly.  (The slot should be at the bottom and it should be removed regularly)

rubber perishes over time if exposed to UV light (the sun) so a wheel cover helps block those rays..thats why all tyres should be stored in a dark area..
