EGR blanking plate
« on: August 09, 2006, 09:44:12 »
I've just got a blanking plate kit for my 300Tdi Disco 1, consisting of a flat steel plate and a spacer type gasket thingy, my question is:- where on the EGR system do the bits fit, anyone help please.

Frank

Remove the EGR valve thats on the exhaust (I think) and the plate covers the hole

If you only have one plate, you will need to fit it between two connectors, i.e. either at the inlet hose end where the EGR braided pipe connects, or at the EGR end.

It's easier to block the pipe end as it's much more accessable.

If you have 2 plates then you can take the EGR off and blank both ends of the pipe.

If you only have 1, don't remove the EGR as you will not get an effective seal at both ends

Had my Disco serviced today and was telling my mate about the EGR valve. He replied that he had done the same to his Pajero. He let me take it for a spin and boy do es it shift!!!

Whilst changing the oil and filters he made me a blanking plate and fitted it to my car. The ride home was noticably better. No more stuttering when pulling away (even with the aircon working)and better acceleration.

Glad I read up and chatted to Frank about it now.

(now where is that intercooler??????)

Frank made a post thanking everyone for there help, he's now fitted his Blanking Plate.

Unfotunately his post was lost with the system maintenance.

Thanks for posting that message Tim, I was unaware that my original "Thanks" message had been "Savaged" by the system.

Since fitting the blanking plate I have noticed a marked improvement on low end torque and much smoother pulling away from standing, not up to V8 standard but better than before.

This is where I fitted it in the end.

Does anyone have a description (or better still, pics) of where you fit an egr blanking plate on a Td5 - sure I've read somewhere that you can do it.
