My man with the spanners has suggested that now i'm towing a trailer with all the camping stuff and a fully laden Defender 90 300tdi. It may be beneficial to fit an electric cooling fan. Any comments from the forum?

I would stick with your mechanical fan, if the viscous coupling fails it will overcool the engine, if an electric fan fails you will cook your motor!!

Unless he means to supplement your existing fan with an electric fan?

I was pulling a fully laden 2T trailer in those extreme temperatures a few weeks ago, no problems at all with my Disco 300TDi. Overheating is rarely a problem with (diesel) landrovers unless there is a problem with the cooling system.

I've bought a Pacet version, yet to fit it though.

My 300TDi 110 stays cold in the winter, so fitting the fan will enable me to control the thermostat, enabling a nice warm cab, (that's the plan!). Also, when off-roading, I have already, (in preparation) fitted a bypass switch to switch it off thus stopping the spread of mud throughout my engine bay.

Just my pennies worth:-)

Thank you both for those replies. I have had no problems with either over heating, even in these extreme tempratures of late, and i seem to be lucky as my cab is warm in the winter. The fitted unit seems to do everything i would expect it to do.
So i guess the old addage 'if it aint broke don't mend it' applies in this case.
Thanks again for you input guys.

Oh and Ollie, if your ever taking your avatar out for the day laning, let me know she is SWEET
