SOund Navigation And Ranging

SONAR (SOund Navigation And Ranging) — or sonar — (in British use ASDIC until 1948) is a technique that uses sound propagation under water to navigate or to detect other vessels. There are two kinds of sonar — active and passive. Sonar is a subcategory of acoustic location.

Laser is the one word the unequivicably proves that Americans are thick.  As has been stated, it is an acronym, a wordmade up of initials.  So why do the yanks spell it with a "z"?

there can only be one answer - because they are thick.
