What to buy ?
« on: August 13, 2006, 20:05:29 »
Evnin All...

I'm looking to buy my first landy..After havng a look at a 110 2.5td CSW, and dwelling over the advice given on here I'm gonna leave it alone.

So I'm looking for advice on what I should buy really. It must be a 110 CSW or a 109 series county/safari...

I want to use the landy for everyday use ( I dont do much mileage) plus greenlaning etc..

What is a better engine to have petrol or deisel ? Budget is up to about 2K although I may move a bit..

Opinions no matter what would be appreciated..
Hit it till it breaks then hit it some more !

to be honest, i think you wont get much 110 for a couple of grand and the daily driving bit tells me to say buy a disco. theres little a 110 will do that a disco wont in a whole heap more comfort, and you will get a more uptodate engine too.

2k will buy a much newer cleaner disco than 109/110. so unless you really need in excess of 7 seats.......

you could pick up a 2.5NA diesel 110 for about £2k if you look around.. might be a bit sheddy, but a good clean and tidy up, maybe a tin of paint and a brush and you're away

I love series landys but I would buy a disco!  Its the every day thing, have you driven a series?  There are lots of ropey 110s about and 2k wont buy much of one but should get a very smart series.

I would say spend a grand on a series 3 for fun, spend another grand on an old 200tdi disco for everyday use! :D

I would say Disco every time an early 110 probably wont have power steering -not so good when in the ruts -even worse in traffic parking etc, also the brakes leave a lot to be desired -drums on back
The Disco on the other hand has the TDI engine lots more power, discs all round , great tow car , and does everything a 110 does but in comfort,
thats my 2ps worth,

hmm certainly food for thought. The trouble is there is 5 of us including 3 teenage sons and a large dog. So we could really do with the room that a 110 gives. If it were up to me I'd have a 90 :)

110s all had PAS, it was the early 90s which had it as an option.

My advice would be.... Save another £1k.... then look for a 110.

90's & 110's are easier to maintain (due to fewer electric gizmo's to go wrong) than Disco's..... but then they dont have the comfort.

Save another £6k and i'd sell my 90

£2k can buy you a good 110 if you look hard enough. It did for me, you've just got to be willing to accept it may need a little work, just keep looking, and keep a good eye on ebay.

Although I did consider a Disco at a LOT of stages, it was the 110s character that just kept me going back to it.

Hi Mash,

.........might be worth having a look here, don't think its the csw but it must have the middle row of seats as it's a 5 door, it's about your budget, and it looks really smart, hope this helps.

.....................cheers Jack.

PS don't forget to scroll to the top of the thread for the details.
