ok dudes and dudeses,
 hope you can help, the tv has kicked the bucket :sobsob:  :sobsob: now then,have been looking on the web at lcd and plasma,dose any one have one of these, and if so which one do you think is the best. pic qual ect ect.

I dont have either (too tight to buy one), but my dad and brother have both. Brother has a projector as well, 8 foot picture.

i've got a 42" plasma and must say it's fantastic, but my mates dad has got a 32" lcd and the picture looks crisper, the best thing to do is go and watch the football in dixons on a sat afternoon on both and make your own mind up

I have a 42" plasma, Samsung, exceelent T.V looks good hanging on the wall as well  8)

As for recharging after 5 years, can't say mine is still crisp and it is 4 years old.

A lot of money but well worth it.

Plasma has a woolly picture compared to LCD, and do you want to spend a lot of money on something which will not last more than a few years?

LCD doesn't suffer screen burn;  plasma does.  So if you watch the same channel a lot, the channel ID will burn into the screen.  (Look at the plasma TVs round Heathrow to see what I mean.)

Anything over 32" and you'll want plasma , you'll get screen burn on lcd over 32"
Recharging a plasma is an old wives tale , it can't be done , this has been discussed on other forums i've been on .
If you want long life go for a sony plasma as some of there models have 65,000hrs viewing time .
At the end of the day its up to you , like whats been said , go have a look round the superstores and see which you prefer .

You sure?  I thought LCD didn't get screen burn full stop.  Why would the size make a difference?  :?

We have two 17" lcd's and a 42" panasonic plasma (4000;1 contrast ratio) and the plasma wins hands down even compared to all the larger lcd's I have seen.

However  different makes of plasma vary in picture quality, if going plasma route do a lot of research, probably best from my knowledge to go with either sony or panasonic.

Personally I wouldn't swap my plasma for any other tv medium.

get a crt hi def tv

better quality and longevity than both plasma and lcd

samsung do a 32" widescreen hi def for around 500 quid or less

you will get pixelation with lcd
you wont with good old fashioned crt, unless you want it wall mounted cos it sticks out the back a bit

but other than that its the best option

I like plasma pictures but they are darned heavy and use lots of power (enough to keep your living room warm!). My brother got a 42" Sony LCD which only weighed in at 9Kg and the picture is good especially with HD Sky signal.

Personaly I favour viewing movies and big sports events on a big projector screen. DLP and LCD projectors can be bought quite cheaply these days (I got a High Def Hitachi LCD projector on E-Bay the other week for £38! Seller said it needed a new bulb- I plugged it in and was fine.)

The only trouble with projectors is bulb life (~2000 hours) and bulb cost (£200+)- so you don't use them to watch Eastenders! Can't beat them for a 12 foot picture in the lounge though!

ive got a sagum rear projector. Not quite as crisp as some of the expensive lcds...but a boat load cheaper and the 45 inch one is perfect for my lounge. The bulb has good life expectancy and only costs  about 70quid.
