Check the oil filler cap for chocolate ice-cream and exhaust for excess steam, but the AMC 4.0 is pretty bulletproof, so unlikely to be head gasket. Most likely to be water pump given up or hole in rad.

oil looks fine clean as it should, doesnt seem excess pressure. just watched him blast down the road .no steam.? i thought the same as you . i did work for jeep years ago but only changed a couple of h/gaskets. this ones only done 50 thou miles aswell. cant see any external leaks inside or out. bit of a mystery. alan.......

Yep, does the cabin smell of coolant? It would really reek - the stuff they use in Jeeps these days is foul!

cheers guys will have another look. the inside smells ok and the carpet area all seems dry. think the pumps ok not leaking and iff it were an impellor fault it would over heat i'd have thought . hes just come back from devon didnt o/heat just used coolant ?. feel a bit bad because i got the car for him. what ever it is cant be much. still wondering about slight h/gasket prob. eek. got a c/o machine might wave it across the header tank see iff it picks up anything. cheers alan......
