Hello all, not sure if this is the right place to put so feel free to move if you wish!

If your anything like me you may have always thought when I die they can take any thing they want. If this is true for you then please tell your loved ones your wishes and carry the card. You can also register your wishes on the uk transplant data base which links to your nhs number. If you have specific wishes ie leave my eyes alone you can make your wishes known here. The register makes it easier for hospital staff to carry out your wishes if the worst should happen. Some things such as tissue can be donated after your death even up to 48hrs.

on serious note pity this service wasn't avaible 13 years ago when my dad left the house and forgot his by the time we got to the hospital all they could save was his heart valves :(

, which still made a difference but they could have used a lot more if they had known he was an organ donor.  :D

Already signed up and have carried a card for years now....... its also part of the driving license I seem to think. I am also a blood donor and on the list for bone marrow donations and all my loved ones know the score

Its on the driving licence yes.

Various reasons I'm resricted to what I can donae but am a donor all the same. We dont like to think about death and are squamish about what we leave behind but put it another way, you could be saving someone's life and thats not something you get chance to do often.

And they arent ruling out the possibility of a brain transplant anymore :)

i am not sure if i am signed up already so i went ahead and signed on.  I also carry my australian donor card - geoff knows how i feel about this - i believe we ought to have the swedish system where you have to opt out rather than opt in.

I used to work for a renal physician (kidneys) and know the problems with getting transplants.

Great stuff. You will be supprised at just who can donate. Even if you have heart,lung or kidney problems some bits of ya are still usefull. Even after you die skin, bone, heartvalves and corneas can be donated upto 48hrs afterwards. Even Hepatits B donors can donate is certain circumstances particuly if the recipient has  Hep B. Remeber talk to your loved ones and tell them your wishes even if it is not to donate anything. At least they will have the comfort of knowing your wishes were carried out.
