Thanks in advance,  John.

John - if you do start making it with success let me know.  I don't have the room to make it myself, but would be happy to buy it from someone locally on a regular basis as there are no garages selling it around here (Redditch).

Well just tanked up with Bio. Another tank happily used! My bio is made from WVO, so i was worried about it waxing in the colder months, so i was going to mix it with 5% diesel as diesel waxes at a lower temp than bio, and in winter the fuel companies legally have to add things to the diesel to lower the waxing temp even further! But do you reckon you could get away with mixing it with red?

Im not saying you should try this, but i started out with bio by using a 70% central heating oil 30% veg oil (from the cash and carry) mix.
Central heating oil is cheaper than diesel, but doesnt have the lubricating properties of diesel, so you add the veg oil to get that back! I did that once, then went on to the real stuff!

Using Red diesel or heating oil in your vehicle on the road is a really bad idea. As you are not paying duty on it if you get caught then you lose your vehicle, get fined and no end of trouble.

Red diesel also stains the fuel system, so even one use will show residual markings and chemicals getting you into trouble.

I just tanked up the 200tdi, im not brave enough to try the td5  :D

Yes, red does stain the fuel system.. But consider this.. the cleaning power of bio-diesel is very strong, will it allow the red diesel to stain the system?

Also, running a 5% red diesel to 95% bio, thats a really small percentage, so i dont think it will stain the system.

Your quite right smo, running central heating oil is illegal to run on the road, but is it illegal if you run it with a mix of veg oil and call it bio diesel? Im only guessing, i dont know  :?

But as MiniMan says, it wouldnt bother anyone if you just used it off road!

Its VOSA who "dip test", and they are just as nasty on IOM as over here. There was a chap last year from memory on LRUK who got done for using RED in his LR over on IOM.

As for using ti offroad, as has been said - dont bother if you use it on road, as they dont differnetiate between the two without serious proof, which you wont have. If you want to run red offroad then you need a completely seperate fuel tank and system (filter/pump) etc and even then you'd have a job making them believe you.

10% veg and 90% diesel. Runs great, saved the recipts for paying duty, car smells like hot chip fat, cold starts great, runs great, I can tell no difference other than the smell.

Gonna up to 15% next fill up, then mebbe 20%.

Not economical at the mo, cause with duty Im gonna be paying the same sorta cost, but I know Im greener.
BUT, When I get a source for used veg oil, and filter and run that, Im gonna be onto a saving.

Vehicle has a Isuzu 1.7 Tdi motor(aka vauxhall astra/cavalier etc) with a Bosch diesel injection pump.

At 125 miles per week, Im gonna be a lot greener , and maybe a bit richer.

At first I used to go to morrisons and buy 3 3Liter bottles throw that in the tank and then go to the fuel station and bang £20 in. Run like a dream and saved me the earth. I now have a proper blend from the pump which is 100% Rapeseed Oil which is supposed to be the best on the market and yep it is if ya ask me....

I thought if it was filtered to 10 microns, and left to settle/dried, it was ok?

Im guessing some form of pumped/powered filter would be needed really, gravity would be a long shot I guess.

Anyone got a good supplier/cost for oil, or do I just wait for Morrisons to have a 3 for 2 offer

The thing with used vegatable that it has fat and sugars (glycerin mainly) in it that have to be taken out otherwise they leave nasty things in your engine!

The fats have to be emulsified and taken out..

The problem with used is not the particle size...

The used oil has water sugars and starches in

when you use the correct processing equipment you get loads of water and glycerine out.

I would not use used oil full stop without processing it to remove the water etc.....
