Classic cars disappearing!

Having read the paper today it appears that the cars of my youth are disappearing :shock:
ever wondered where all the mk4 cortinas are? Ford built over a million and now there are only 2000 left
also there are only 745 morris marinas left on the roads, 745 too many still IMO :lol:

Saving stuff and restoring classics isnt the same any more there wont be any from my childhood cos who can afford to pay road tax on a car you drive once or twice a month.  Tax exemption came back it might be different.  It would stop all these folks ringing series 3's aswell.  I mean bloody hell after 25 years I think a motor has paid for the bit of road its worn out.

makes you wonder where all the70s&80s cars have gone.having said that i served my time on the british leyland brand what a pile of sh**e,loved working on fords,some crouts&frogs but i still love the old mini, mind you they are like land rovers, you love em or hate em.i did enjoy the 80s had a lot of fun.... :D  :D  :D   p.s. still am

Theres someone locally who still uses a cortina as his daily drive, and there is 2 original shape granadas around as well.

OH tomcat a man of me heart......I dont have the name MINIMAN for no reason. Yeh bring back TAX exemtion but not on them series 3s....LMAO only joking jim....he he. Yeh if a car has lasted this long why sould it not become tax exempt. The MOT test is getting so tight now if the dam thing is still on the road it should have some grace......

Just them gits in goverment would be losing money so it wont happen but its a con if ya ask me.

my first car was an mk2 ford escort van fitted with a 2.0ltr pinto engine world cup cross member,bilstines,droped single leaf springs,mk2 rs rear axle,rs gear box,oh what fun that motor was 110mph with 6cwt in the back.... :D  :D  :D  :D

I fit a 1750cc Maxi in one of my Minis now try and tell me that was not fun....12in all round and OVERDRIVE on the gear leaver not that ya ever needed it..... Now that was a top toy....

In the 80s my daily drive was a V8 Ford corsair ,the lump was out of a
SDI Rover, axle tramp or what -7j wheels with Goodyear G800 tyres

Ok, not a UK classic, but I've still got a '74 Chevy Camaro on the drive. Still gives me shivers when it starts up  :D

There was a load of capris at the Leeds steam rallly on Sunday.

My firned used to have one which he bought for £35, a delivery lorry took out his rear quarter window and it was a write off.

The company whose lorry it was insisted on going through their insurance!

My dad can probobly be blamed for the demise of those, he used to carry the CB Handle "Marina Masher" as he was a magnet for them when in the wagon, hit/was hit by about 4 IIRC :lol:

Had a T reg 1.6 Cortina, which sadly got totally trashed, I did major repairs on it then it got roled in a motorway accident by the new owner. :(

Dad had a Rover 2000SC and later a 3500TC both brought for peanuts and sold for a lot more :) Loverly gars and thats where I discovered the Rover V8, net another one a year later as a boat inboard. I have seen these still about sometimes.

Some of the late 80's and early 90s cars have totally vanished. OK, they were a bit rubbish but where did the Montegos and Meastros go?

I noticed that Capris are all but gone. And when did you last see a Renault Fuego?

Mate left one of them on mum and dads lawn while I was at school. My house was on route and I remeber everyone saying wow and was it mine etc. He turned round when he emmigrated and said we could have it, looked forward to it being my first car but it was sold on :(

they are getting harder to find now, mate bulit a singer vogue for the pre 1970s meet a few months ago, 165 card turned up to be wrecked - brilliant night, sadly his didnt even make it onto the track  :oops:

some are worth restoring, anglias are cool, escort vans, imps, have some fun the weigh the rest of the old crap in

GLC 949T Wasnt a bad car all things considered. Certainly better put togther than my brothers S reg Escort Si. I have the feeling the boat engine is a 2.0 Pinto from one of these.

More recently had a couple of 80's Mercs. Built like, well, you know.... but boring as hell  :lol: Followed by a 1988 Scirocco.... now that was a fun car. Would easily go three wheeling around roundabouts  :twisted:

I'd like to find a really nice SD1 Vitesse if I could, but I suspect Sarah would kill me if I bought another car right now  :roll:

please correct me if wrong but i dont think they made a 3500tc?
