Scorpion kit?
« on: August 31, 2006, 21:52:18 »
OK I have seen from a few posts that there are a few fans of Scorpion racing parts.  Please don't think I am critisising them!  I have a few parts of theirs on my project namely Double carden prop and front springs.

I saw in a recent LR mag that a 101 had a custom prop in from Scorpion.  Has anyone else had one?

I am looking at getting a rear prop for a 110 to connect a Discovery R380 (longer bell housing) to a Disco 1 rear axle.

I also want to change the axle flange from the Disco dohnut type to a standard defender type, Is this as straightforward as it seems?

My project is now running with the Scorpion front prop (although not road legal yet), in Diff lock.  I need the rear prop sorting soon!

Any help would be great thanks!

errr joking apart, but i wouldnt buy a propshaft from them ! let alone a custom 1
go  to s specialist propshaft place and youll get it aload cheaper, cos thats all they are doing and then making a nice healthy mark up onit
as for the flandge, afink the splines are different, but not sure, try ashcroft transmissions or crown diffs for the answer

Springs arent easy to go direct unless you can visit and get your current springs measured. The guys in sheffield are top class but dont have anything on the shelf so you could end up with anything...too soft , too hard who knows!
Propshafts are funny things . I would recommend propshaft technology in rotherham any day. Andy is top class...30 degree...dont think so mine are 36 degree....bit better. Mine look like they came off a tank!
I would go local . Google in your town there will be a specialist propshaft manufacturer. Take it along if you can and get him to measure it. Then if its not quite right he can change it...plus they weigh a blummin tonne, that would be expensive to post!

Not every one has had problems with Scorpion gear.
There has been a few malfunctions which have been rectified by Scorpion.
I know a few people that use their stuff and have done for years without any problems.

as i said before you need a prop which is approx 2 inches longer than a 110 rear due to having the disco rear axle fitted

the flange is a multi spline on the diff but it depends if its a 24 spline axle or a 10 spline axle,if its a 10 spline axle it has 4 splines on the flange,if its a 24 spline axle its a multi spline flange,

Your rear prop should cost much less as you wont be needing a dc shaft. The reason you dont need one on the rear is the shaft is much longerso the angle becomes less.
