I was coming home this evening through Welshpool and onto the A490 towards Llanfyllin. At one point the road has a straight which is nearly 2/3 of a mile long. I came onto one end of the straight and a motorbike was on the other end. All of a sudden he pulled a wheelie and kept it going for the full length of the straight and the engine was screaming when he passed me.

As a biker(well, not at the mo, so currently ex biker I guess) I can vouch for the fact that nothing Ive ever done on the road or off road comes close to doin wheelies on a big bike.
To be fair, Im not very good at it, but get it up on the gas and nail it thru for as long as you can/dare  feels like nothing else. Especially the little squeal as the front tyre hits the road and has to catch up with the rest of the bike. haha

I know its not entirely legal, but its such good fun

The lane he was in was clear, but there were a few cars going in the opposite direction along with me and he must have been doing close to 90mph when he passed. The bloke knew what he was doing as he was changing gears and everything whilst in the air and looked like he could go on all day. The bike was nearly vertical the whole time and not just a couple of feet off the ground.

as a biker i cannot condone this sort of act, its just that sort of thing that gives 'cage' drivers something else to moan about.
when done correctly - ie on privat etrack / roads then they can be awesome but on the public roads they are just plain moronic

Come on Bezzabsa

you have:

Quote
suzuki Bandit 600 2004-need for speed;)

listed in yr description. Presumably your need for speed stops at 30/40/50/60, or 70 mph depending on the posted speed limit......?

Or maybe you trackday your 600 bandit??

Bikes and an empty road are too much fun to be 100% sensible!!

They have few other good points, they get you wet, they fall over easily, and the accident/mortality rates are horrendous.

Then again, mebbe you just need to practice your wheelies....

speed is ok - in the correct place ;) but would you drive your car with 3 wheels on the road? no didnt think so, i dont care how good you are bikes have 2 wheels for a reason... all it takes is 1 person in a car and its game over!
seen too many people i know wiped out by someone while the biker hasnt had 100% concentration.
I have been riding bikes for nearly 22 years on and off, and touch wood i have had 1 'off' and that was through someone overreacting in a car . yes i like the odd 3 figure forey - but when roads and conditions allow, not in 30 limits at 9:30 am like some 'bikers'...
LOve the stunt riders who do these things in a controlled enviroment, but roads are for driving and riding within the law!

First ever emergency call out was for a biker that tboned a transit at 80 in a 30 limit, him and his mate were drag racing on a residential road and the trasnsit was backing off. The mate broke just about everything and ended up in a cravan. The guy that hit the van we couldnt do a lot for.

Sold my bke a month after. Miss it sometimes. One wheel seemed to be its normal mode of operation.

I've never had the brass to get the front wheel more than a couple inches off the floor. It's the thought of binning a bike I can't afford to replace. I'm pretty good at it with the works tractors though, and the wheeled excavator does great stoppies.

Old propane forklift in Canada was good for that. Get it just right and you could get it onto the forks and do alsorts.

i was once talking to a bloke in a wheelchair who had had the miss fortune to be hit by a car while himself and his wife were out riding i forget what speed he was doing but it was not his fault, they had been slpit for 8 months one being cared for at her mums and the other at his mums he didn't think he would walk again and his wife was paralised and could't talk but only in one word answers.  this memory will unforunately stay with me it has done for around 15 years, i hate motorbikes and we have idiots round us that pull out infront of rangie (one just missed us yesterday needless to say he had some verbal) all the protection he had on was a helmet and a t-shirt and jeans trainers i forgot to say the guy and his missus were both wearing full leathers and helmets and proper boots they probably would not have suuvived otherwise as it had took nearly all his muscle and skin off the leg he had skidded on

debbie

i have had the rangie on two wheels trying to keep up while out green laning now i just go at either the speed limit or a speed which i am comfortable which one is legal

NIce vid, looks like you had a good time. Currently have 2 bikes a drz and a gixer. The gixer is an old war horse last of the oil burners.
Wheelies are fun, still scare me and having seen Rolla do a few he's pretty much understating his abilities.
Yes bikes are evil dangerous nasty things ....just like some people would have you think about 4x4's. Each to their own. People die and get injured in car accidents last time i heard??? Me im not a fan of morris dancers.
Im not trying to belittle peoples opinions or others suffering but they made the choice...and hey they will have to prize the keys to mine from my cold dead hands. We still live in a free society dont we.

only had 2 bike accidents both times i was under the speed limit
first 1 some t**t pulling off his drive shattered wrist and both kneecaps and totalled harley
second 1 diesel on roundabout (from fire engine) fractured little toe 3 ribs and collar bone 350lc

but there again none of us break any laws do we!!!!

I agree that we all have a choice - and that no one is a total saint... but as i said all it takes is a 1 millisecond lapse of concentration and its all over..doesnt even need to be your fault. have seen too many plastic fantastic riders who believe they are immortal come to grief, and even when im in the wagon i am constantly surprised by how many of us bikers think we can win in an arguement with 18 tonnes of steel and rubber.
I turned 40 last week and believe me at times i didnt think id reach it, but i ride like im on ice and as though all car drivers are blind - and so far its worked for me..

i would just like to point out that a lot of the muppets out there are returning to bikes from a long time off. Born agains are a danger to themselves and others.
Ps i worked for Carnells for over 3 years and know the industry pretty well.
Split seconds are the difference no matter what from of transport you use. I can ride steadily without even having to think about it. Most people maybe cover 1000 miles in a year i do around 10k and have done for over 14 years..... experience is everything.
Yes to ride at 10 tenths you need 100 % focus and decisions have to be made way in advance. I dont think its possible to ride like that safely in the uk , things are far too conjested even in the countryside.
Rolla, Glaggs , Discodj and me have been to the IOM a few times...if i get the chance i'd move there. Now 180 takes some thinking about i can tell you!

This particular guy had the bike nearly vertical with the handlebars level with his eyes and was leaning out to see past his right fist for all of the 2/3 of a mile. He slowed it down to about 50 to go over a crest in the road and then opened it out and changed gear up and passed me at about 90.

It he *had* to do a thing like that then he should have made sure the road was empty.

To keep a balanced view I also saw a bloke in a 06 Range Rover having a shave whilst bouncing along at 60mph and looking at himself in the mirror at the same time.

sorry if i gave the impression of condoning wheelies. I dont as such. If done wrongly they are extremely dangerous and the guy you saw no matter how skilled was still playing games with other peoples lives.

What gets me is all those plonkers on mainly big bikes or kids on scooters riding out with a helmet,T-shirts, shorts and a pair of flip flops. Just the thought of going down the road on your backside like that is too much to bear. My personal view on wheelies is fine kill yourself if you want just don't involve anyone else.

Always, always wear protective gear. Theres far too much to risk to wear shorts+tshirt.

Id always ride in leathers+boots etc, and as someone has mentioned, theres a time and a place for everything, Busy high streets arent it, but empty country roads....well.......are the place for fun.

AS Rolla says, there is a time and a place for everything. Lifes too short, those who post on this forum get there kicks one way or another from 4x4's. Other people, me included get a thrill from speed on two (or even one) wheels. If you want to realy experience speed and freedom get a bike. No car, no mattert how fast will give you the same thrill. Bikes by their nature are inherantly dangerous, thats part of the attraction. I agree they shouldn't be used in a way that causes un-necesary risk to others but come on guys live and let live, or are we as biggoted as the Ramblers.

Well said Glaggs    =D>

I've had Blades, an R1 and currently an RSVR - all capable of 160 +
Have I done it on any of them - course I have - all of them.
Speed kills ! Then why am I still here ?
It is actually BAD DRIVING\RIDING that kills - this can of course be speeding in the wrong place\time.
I wouldn't go to the corner shop with out my full Dainese race leathers on - people mitigate but don't elimate risk - if there was no risk you could argue that that there's no enjoyment.
Think about it  - next time you're about to make a steep decent  - have you walked it first ? have you made sure all spectators are far enough away in case anything goes wrong ? have you got a full cage on ?

'Let him without sin cast the first stone'
