Fitted one to my 200 Tdi 5 years ago. When first fitted I did notice a small differeance in fuel use (between 1 to 2 miles a gallon better average) but I would say if you want to fit one for the fuel saving it's a long term item before you get your money back unless you do loads of miles a year.

I fitted an electric fan out of a scrap omega. I only did it because the viscous fan had given up the ghost. I wouldn't do it for economy but it has other advantages such as the engine warms up quicker (good in winter) and you can turn it off when wading.

hmmm....it'll be done on the cheap (if at all) - a Chrysler Voyager kindly suppled the fan for the Series - and I'm doing about 1500 miles a month at the moment......

So..currently 30 mpg.....2/30 improvement......£50 per week x 2/30 = £3pw saving......

Think I'll acquire a switch/thermostat....

I used a twin fan from a Mondeo, works just fine.  Only cost a few quid!

perosnally i wouldn't bother

i tried one with various thermostatic siwtches but at the end of the day its an electric motor and they don't like water and grit

i swapped back to a good old fashioned viscous unit.
