Jut a thought. But its gomming up on 5 years since 9/11. I know this will draw some flack but I hope at least some will be remebering this.

What were we all up to when it happened?

I was just waking up, Calgary being 2  hours behind, remeber watching it thinking this isnt real. Think I'll always remeber is the second tower being hit. Then 10 minutes later, CF16s in the air over the City and downtown being evacuated. I was asked not to come into work.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Don't think the Canadian AF have ever had F-16s ... CF-18As probably. Had a wing of those posted at Comox, although I imagine the ones in Calgary would have been out of Cold Lake.

Sorry to interrupt with my pedantry :)

I was running a training course, when it finished we trooped back up to the office and saw everyone glued to their monitors.

Thing is, Penny was due to fly over from St Louis (her FIRST flight) on the 16th, talk about anxious times

Heard about it on our return from the pub (lunch!)....found a suitably unaffected text only website serving news..and watched with interest.

My brother flew out American Airlines 2 days later and sent me an email from Chicago airport...."on top of tallest building drinking beer...bring it on!". Always was a bit mad my brother.....

I was with a mate getting some computer bits for the little sideline we ran back then, both of us had simultanious messages/calls from our GF's telling us to watch the telly, so we ran down the street to the nearest shop with one in a window and watched from there.

Driving down the M1 on the way back from our wedding, to go to Heathrow on the morning of 12th for our honeymoon.  Heard on the radio news that a light aircraft had flown into one of the towers and thought, that sounds a bit more significant than they're saying at this stage...

I was at work, but the radio in the truck I was driving was not working, so I had to wait until I got home to get the full details, kept hearing snippits throughout the day from various people I saw....very confusing until I saw it on TV

I was at work all day, with a bunch of senior level guys visiting from the US.

I work for an American company, and work more with folks in the Boston area than I do with people at the next desk, so lots of colleagues were affected, including someone I worked with closely who was on the AA flight from Boston to San Francisco that should have taken off an hour after the LAX flight that got hijacked.  His plane never left the ground, and by the time he got out of the terminal and turned his phone back on there were about a dozen increasingly frantic messages from his wife.

For all he knows, there could have been hijackers on that plane as well.

Yep, sempt unreal to me too   . Sat at my desk just after lunch, when our tech director came in and said "world war three has just begun".

Spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get some sense out of the BBC/CNN websites, things were a little slow...

Some of the photos in your gallery might be suggest that this comment is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.   The ones involving a suit of armour, to start with.

i had the day off college and was sat at home with a mate... not sure why we had telly on and i realised @ half 5 i was late for work!

stuff they were showing was all very mad because no one knew what was really happening.. first the towers then the pentagon and then the other one that passangers managed to 'reclam' but still came down. these are both ones i think people forget.. and to an extent who can blame them when 2 of the most famous buildings have some thing like that happen to them.

having visited the states many years ago i will rememeber the sky line and i would like to go see 'ground Zero' when they have actually created something, as i found out when watchin one of the channel 4 documenties from the firemens point that a lasting memorial to the victiums has not yet been finished, there is how ever a memorial to those fire fighters who lost there lives.
