Did you make a note of what adjustments you made, so you can put it back to normal?
Also, what did you do to the intake, is it the turbo boost you've done by shortening the threaded bar to the wastegate?

I've done the injector pump adjustments and not had any problems with the idle. I did start getting black smoke but I just turned things back a wee bit until it stopped.
If the Disco hasn't got a larger intercooler fitted then the diaphram should only really be turned through about 90 degrees, otherwise you just waisting fuel.

Did you do anything to the Power Adjustment Screw on the back of the injector pump (the one with the steel anti-tamper collar on it) as this maybe the problem if you did. Either that or you took too much tension out of the diaphram spring and it's going to full fuel as soon as you touch the throttle.

Best thing to do is put it back to standard and start again, but only do one thing at a time and see how it runs.

hi
i didnt play with wastegate, only cus i couldnt get to it without load of agg.i just re routed the air intake toforced air straight in from front as opposed to sucking between the wings.
i adjusted the diaphram a bit, ok, a lot, and no as usual i didnt mark anything, and then knoked of the plastic coller and wound her in about 3 turns.
it went well, very much quicker and ran fine all afternoon, smoked a tad under heavy acceleration but its going too. then tonite went out all of a sudden loads of black smoke and wont idle, or its very lumpy, so adjusted the idle screw so it idles again although slightly to quick i think, but smokes like a kipper!
think im gonna have to guess where everything was and start again.
the only thing is, now it has an intermittent whistle noise coming from turbo area when idling, hope its not nacked the bearings.

Would that be the 'front' that goes underwater when fording?
Or the front that doesn't go near water?

Yep, that would do it!
When I did mine, bearing in mind I have an Allards Intercooler fitted, I went about 110 degrees on the diaphram, 360 degrees on the Smoke Screw, left the plastic collar in place and went 180 degrees on the Star Wheel.
I didn't have to touch the idle and I left the wastegate alone.
I did each one in turn and drove the vehicle in between to see what it was like and make sure there wasn't too much smoke.
It took a while to get it right but it was worth it in the end.  :D

You have to be careful about how much you alter these settings as it will affect the Exhaust gas temperature (EGT). Running with the EGT too high for long periods can make a mess of the engine and, if it doesn't burn out the valves or cook the turbo, will shorten the life of the engine.

TBH moving the air intake won't have that much difference. I fitted a K&N i57 kit to mine and didn't really notice the difference between that, the standard filter setup & the Safari Snorkle I have on it now.
