Got NATO hitch which slider do i use?
« on: September 19, 2006, 14:39:41 »
Hey all

I have bought a NATO hitch, a rather nice one too i must say from eblag. Well worth the money.

I am going to mount it onto a slider for the standard Land Rover adjustable towing system.
The only problem i have is are the sliders with that bolt configuration standard or a special order?
I have tried the Dixon Bate website and found info on the sliders and the hitches but no information on which slider bolt configuration or sizes fit.

I have found a few places where i can get the slider from but i do not know which one to get.
The NATO hitch has 4 bolts the centre of which is approx 45mm from top bolt to bottom bolt and approx 86mm from left bolt to right bolt

Does anyone have a NATO hitch on a slider for one of these towing brackets? If so, where did you get it from?

company names or website links appreciated....

Many thanks all

You need the one with a total of 8 bolt holes in it. Like THIS

I think what he wants to do is change between the 2 hitches. So having 2 sliders he can.

Yup, thats it.
Also, no room on rear crossmember as adjustable towing bracket takes up all the room.

Not undoing that. so slider it is.

If you have a Dixon Bate adjustable height hitch fitted then just buy an additional slider (less than £20 brand new) and bolt the NATO hitch to that, DB make the NATO hitch and the hole pattern on the slider is spot on.
I carry 3-sliders on mine C/W NATO, ball & pin hitches.

Litch,

That is exactly what i want to do, but i need to know where i can buy the sliders with the holes as is needed for the NATO hitch.
You mention Dixon Bate. I was on their site earlier on today, and found the sliders with dimensions, but the holes did not line up. I suppose emailing them or phoning to find out would be a good idea.

I got told the sliders are £35 from DB.
I was hoping to get one slightly less than that, but will pay it if i have to.

Just what I have planned I have 2 sliders so just got to get a NATO hitch.

Try Craddocks I think they usually have them in stock. Not listed on the web page but I am sure I have seen them on the self for about £20.

First of all you need to find out if your bracket is a DB unit, if it is new sliders are available from any LR or trailer parts supplier for between £15-£20 brand new. If it a DB plate then the NATO hitch will bolt straight on.
Alternatively you could look around for a S/H one, I bought a spare one when I bought my DB bracket and then picked up a S/H one complete with eye type hitch for £5 from a chap down the road from me.

Litch

If it is a DB unit will it have their name somewhere?
Mine has a Land Rover logo and LR part number so i thought it was LR, but i read that LR use DB units, so i have no idea what it is.
It is factory fitted unit, the 110 was originally ply lined by Land Rover themselves

I have enquired with a company who sell adjustable units and NATO sliders, so will wait on the reply.  I sent the dimensions of mine to make sure it is the same size.

I await their reply
