I think it is fair to say that all our wishes are with Richard and his family at this moment,  he is a profound and entertaining presenter, who is one of the few people who successfully made Top-Gear worth watching again.  Anyone who has seen an episode of Brainiac will appreciate the warmth, humour and entheusiasm he brings to the screen...

let's hope he hurrys on back, TV is boring without him on it

The 36-year-old was attempting to break the British landspeed record for BBC car show TOP GEAR when the accident happened at a former Royal Air Force airfield near York, England. Sources at Leeds General Infirmary say Hammond is improving but is still seriously ill. He has been joined at his bedside by Top Gear co-presenters JEREMY CLARKSON and JAMES MAY. Clarkson said in a statement that Hammond and his family are "the most important concerns we have. "I would just like to say how heartened Richard will be when I tell him just how many motorists and truck drivers on my way here wound down their windows to say they were rooting for him."

Its one of those one in a million things. Hope he makes a very quick recovery he helped make Top gear what is it....top show.
There was a section on radio 5 this morning with people calling in to have their say. Lots of support but some real wallies on there as well.

Just seen the most recent update on Richard from the BBC and it states:

Doctors say that he has a significant brain injury but should make a good recovery.

I wish that they had said a full recovery    

Come on Richard, prove them wrong!

On the early morning news today - the Hamster has been transferred to a hospital nearer his family home........and he walked from the helicopter to the ambulance  :D . He's one tough geezer !

From what I can tell he was suffering from a blood clot on the brain which is the "significant brain injury" they were refering to,  this was causing pressure on the brain which was potentially life threatening,  they relieved the pressure and he's making a "good" recovery (according to the news)

What this actually entails is anyones guess, the brain is remarkably resiliant to damage, and can recover from a hell of a lot (if it was designed, then nice work that man)

Think of a wood borer bit and a black and deckker. And no, I'm not kidding :)

People have taken a lot worse injuries including loss of a significant volume of it, and still been able to carry on business as usual.
