A mate and I have just put this together . we have materials to make many more    Which we will be doing . After a bit of messing around getting the angles right and extending the length of the curve we have IMO got it spot on . when the bonnet is closed (sammy) there is 1 1/2" at least between the top of the carb and the bonnet so I think it will fit an SJ aswell. One point is that the HIF SU is always installed between vertical and 20 degrees inclined backwards. You seem to have it inclined forwards. Not sure if it would be a problem, but thought it would be worth mentioning.

I guess it isn't likely to be a problem given they seem to happily operate as silly vehicle angles - see avatar  :lol:

as I said it is a prototype and the one in the photo is only tacked onto the flanges . That being said you are right of course and the HIFF44 is ussuall mounted at an angle so I should atleast put it at the vertical . Thanks for the input and I will get onto that in the morning . A very minor mod but it could be a major detail . Thanks .

Dont want to knock the idea, but...

The elbow you have made could do with either insulating or heating. the problem is that the long length(maybe 6 inches on the outside of the bend) of steel pipe can cause the fuel to condense on the inner walls, leading to a 'wet' fuelling problem. A double skin with coolant running between, or maybe some copper pipe wound round the thing might work(with coolant runnin thru)
If thats not a possibility, mebbe some insulation/lagging, to try and keep the manifold from getting cold.

Su is a good carb to go for tho, works at better angles than Nikki/webber.


What the heck, give it a go, it may work spot on without any trouble.

Oh yeah, you can get an o ringed sandwhich mounting plate for mounting su's on. With that adaptor attatched to your (fairly long already) suzuki manifold, you may find the carb vibrates about, which can lead to the fuel frothing in the float bowl. The 'o'ringed damper spacer can help with that .

there are a couple of guys I have seen with longer adapters who don't have a problem . saying that I do know that icing can be a problem but then I was given a link to this which I think will sort the problem

They could be connected via a relay and swith and used when cold , starting etc

I got round to connecting all the gubbins today and it started first time . Which I might add gave me a huge cheesy grin as the engine is one I picked up a couple of months ago and after some fettling and cleaning and generally sitting around for more weeks than it should have finally came to life first time today . float bowl was sticking but a friendly tap soon fixed that problem. PURRRRS!!!!  now like a really fluffy and cute kitten that doesn't pee on the floor or wreck your curtains

Thats no Suzuki then! :) I think the day rabbit stops leaving wet patches and starts behaving like a lady will be the day I sell it in abject panic of what is about to go wrong.
