Rear windows - to fit, or not to fit ?
« on: September 22, 2006, 16:35:30 »
As per the subject !

As it stands, my 110 has got the rear windows fitted (the little ones either side of the rear door), but they are covered with a metal blanking panel on the inside - so the glass is still visible from the outside.

The new side panels that I've got for the (soon-to-be-started) re-build do not have the rear window apertures cut in them. I could make templates from the old panels, cut new holes and fit the original glass etc, etc.

If I fit the windows:

1. it's something else to get broken when off playing or laneing
2. it's something for jonny-scrote to break and try and get into my truck
3. there's somewhere to put stickers !

If I don't fit the windows:

1. no where (other than the rear door window) for stickers
2. less chance of jonny-scrote busting in
3. more paintwork to get scratched !

There seems to be pros and cons - anyone got any other reasons for fitting or not fitting ?

TIA
Jim

I say keep them, as you will find with a van you have a massive blind spot coming out at junctions, and having windows in makes it a hell of a lot easier.

Dew, i think you are talking about the wrong windows....

The ones either side of the door don't do that much for visibilty, except when reversing.

So advantages....

They do give you better rear visibilty, and you've got some where for stickers.

Disadvantages...

Somewhere else for thieving g*** to break into.  Though you could fit a internal window mesh - so you get the best of both worlds.

Might be a case of suck it and see....

Ian,

You are (of course !) correct - i am talking about the small windows either side of the rear door........useful (maybe ?) when reversing, but bu&&er all use when pulling out at junctions !

Think I'll go with not fitting them to start with, and see what it looks like.

Ahh I apologise, I have mad cow disease

I thought you meant the little triangular ones you see in the sides of vans.
