How long before a gearbox loosens up . . . . . ?
« on: September 25, 2006, 22:26:06 »
Had a new box and clutch fitted by Ashcrofts (well, their fitters anyway), and boy what a difference!!  I can change down from 3rd to 2nd with it sounding like rocks in a cheese grater.
It feels a bit stiff and very tight    compared to the old one.  How long before it starts to loosen up a bit?

Also, is it worth changing the ATF and EP90 for Millers oils now (what I used previously) or wait until the next service in 5 months time?

I've never been much into gimmics but I'll share this with you. Difflocks synthetic ATF and EP90's made a huge difference to my 'old' gearbox. Smoothed things out and improved gearchange no end.

Then someone told me about activ8....hmmm don't believe it I thought. I got nagged into doing it so added some to both gearbox and transfer box (ontop of the difflock oils). It is absolutely fantastic stuff. Free's up your gearbox 10x is wonderful. So much so I got an extra 5mph uphill flat out by just putting an additive in my gearboxes. Best performance enhancer I've ever used, even if it's not sold as such.

Change the oils Simon, go synthetic and some :-)
