When the Rreg 18 freelander is on full lock left or right it seems to put the brake on. Say if you are on a small slop and you let the car roll on lock, it will move a little and then stop like you have put the brakes on.
I carn't see anywere that it can rub on the tyres. all looks ok.
All i can think of is the CV's. It feals a bit wobble at really slow speed, as you move off.
Also the input bearing on the rear diff can this be replaced like disco or def diffs. If so how hard to do.

Thanks for any replies. Trying to help a lady in distress.

Does anybody know how to check the viscous coupling is working ok, I have heard you need have Freelander in full lock and reversing, is this right :?: Not quite sure what to expect if it has failed.

Cheers  :)

not quite

jack up one back wheel & with a 3ft breaker bar should be able to turn the wheel very slowly,if you cant turn the wheel its (EDIT),the reversing on full lock on a gravel surface can show its a bit tighter than it should be but jacking one wheel up is the better way

ours also complains when u apply full left or right lock but i always assumed it was just because of the sharpness of the turn it needed bit more power to move

The garage had a look put two bars in the front and rear props moved them opposite way and the viscos moved, chap said thats fine. But the rear diff is shot and all the mounting rubber around it. Both front CV's are clicking, need doing. So it is booked in for tuesday at midland 4x4.
mud-club matty is going to do it.
