i've recently bought a 1999 xedi, and i think the hdc is permently switched on. i say this because when you turn the vechicle (ie. into a parking space) it seems to reist it. its almost as though you're trying to push something. :?
also, when you press the trigger, i,m getting any lights show on the dash, i've checked all connections, and they appear fine.
any ideas what i should try before i go to the main stealer before it goes competely bang.

Not sure about HDC, it can be on all the time, but only supposed ot come in at low speed, as it apples the brke it would in theory be obvious in a straight line as well as turnign in.
Howver.
You syptons sound ratehr like the issue with slowing on full lock described in another recent thread

I think HDC only comes into action when in 1st and reverse gears, therefore for hill descending and for failed hill climbs, at least on my TD4 it is, hope this helps :)
Cheers

i was passing a main dealers ( hartwells in northampton), so i popped in and had a chat with the man behind the desk who said that he also thought it would be related to the viscous coupling, however..................one of the mechanics was passing, and he asked if he agreed . he said ' its nothing to worry about they all do that'
:? :? :? :?
as soon as i get the floor welded in the disco and get it out of the garage, the freebie's going in and i'll take it all apart and have a look.

You dont just press the trigger mate, you press the trigger and push the collar its mounted onto down.
As for the resisting something when parking, It isnt just parking, its any manouver at full steering lock, something to do with the centre diff or viscous coupling. Its a bit of an irritation to start with as you have to use the throttle to get your speed back up but once you are used to it you wont even think about it.

Yep. Both ours have done exactly the same. We even had the VC checked on the first one because we thought it was faulty. But it was fine.
