If it's for a full hardtop, then it will be essentially the same as the external cage for the 90 :

Have a look at

I think you have to use far better quality stuff than scaffold tube

scaff tube

scaff tube, or 'blue band' as it is sometimes known is actually a fairly high spec material as its classed as construction grade... in theory it would be good for a cage as it is considerably stronger than some tubing used by some companies. however, due to its considerable wall thickness it is extreamly heavy and a bit of a sod to pull around a tight radius.
if i was just building a roll hoop with a couple of stays i'd consider it, but for a full cage i reckon it'll be a bit heavy.
for those who think it might not be strong enough, when you next see a building covered in scaff, think how much weight the lower tubes are supporting... in relation to the weight of your 'rover...

Pete,

Paul at Yeovil 4x4 Parts has a Series 3 with Full External Roll cage to ARC spec.

A couple of pictures of it there. Paul's approach to getting the cage made was to get the ARC Specification and then get someone to custom make a cage to that spec. Very strong and a very nice job though and I am sure it will outlive the series 3  :D

isnt it amazing how strong FERN is. Perhaps if someone had reccy'd' it, and chopped it down, then the winch may have not been needed. lol   :D
