Self-cancelling indicators don't
« on: October 16, 2006, 23:40:27 »
I've just changed the left-hand stalk on my 200TDi Disco.

However, the indicators don't self-cancel any longer.  Anyone got any ideas why, or what I may have done wrong?

if its the same set up as I used to have on the 90 theres a plastic ring that sits in behind the steering wheel and it has a raised section that catch's on the stalk and that turns the indicator off
Maybe the ring is out of alinegnment (had this problem on the 90 - easily fixed just remove steering wheel and re-aline)
Or it could be the ring is actualy damaged - if so try a breakers

It is a similar if not the same setup.  Could also be the stalk itself?  Someone told me rover metro stalks work (they look the same) but when I tried one, the indicators didnt work.  I got it from a scrapper with no battery to so I couldnt test it 1st.

Anyone know ow true this is?

I have used stalks from Maestro vans before and they work OK - same door handles as classic range rovers too
As landyloony has already said - you will have fitted the new stalk without lining it up with the self cancelling ring - easy fix on a 90/110 - just unscrew the cowling and fix in situ
Don't know how easy this is to remove on a disco though - but surely must be easier than taking steering wheel off

Well, I'll give it a go when I get a round tuit.

It's actually the proper part, ordered new from Paddocks. And for what it's worth, taking the steering wheel off is surprisingly easy, once you've prised the badge out.

In which case it should be easy to check/sort then !
