Parade of Progress
« on: October 25, 2006, 23:19:50 »
I picked up an old copy of 'Classic & Sports Car' in one of the waiting rooms this morning.
There was an article about a wonderful 1950's machine that I'd seen once or twice before;
The Futurliners

What an amazing sight it must have been to see all 12 together in convoy :D  :D  :D

I know they're the product of the 50's design studios obsession with streamlining & the suggestion of futuristic/space travel*, but they also could have been the product of the 1930s & the time of the wonderful style of Art-Deco, with perhaps a nod to the Bauhaus studios (if a little too decorated for them?)

*
Think also, the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, which gained a far wider audience than its designer ever envisaged

Plus, the 'Dark-Deco' styling of the animation in the 1990's Warner Brothers; BatMan
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.
