i normaly take the tomtom in and take the mount off the screen

rang the insurance to get the window done and they also say that the tomtom is only coverd up to the value of £150 so no point claiming for that as the exs is £200 volantry and £300 compolsory so total exs of £500 and the glass is £60 exs so well peed off now
cheeper to replace the tomtom myself as they are about £400

The new tomtom 910 is up for grabs for less than £400 I've seen an advert somewhere.
Sometimes you need to get away from the crowd, the only way to do that, is to get a little mud on the tyres.

just an up date the police say its there word against his at the mo and apparently he was in bed at the time
have been speeking to my neibours and one saw him running with one of his cronies and another saw him smash and grab
so have told the police who saw what and they are going to get statments from them HOPEFULY so will see wot happens
as for the tomtom thats gone for good me thinks as a search didnt find it and no insurance to cover it as veichle has £500 exs the house cover dont cover things in the car the holiday dont cover it cos we were home and the tomtom warranty covers everything but theft(but i can claim back the 5year warranty cover so will get back about £90 from that) so think i will get better insurance next time house and car and with lower excessis

got the window done for £50 on my glass cover as the exs was that
caffyns landrover want £85 for the glass and gumtree said £35 for a 2nd hand one but sorry none in stock so best way was through the insurance for the glass but didnt cover the scratches to the paint work from the brocken glass that would mean paying £500 exs

I can sympathise with you as last year we had exactly the same thing happen.

About 7pm one evening, after being in the house for less than ten minutes, I went outside to remove our Garmin streetpilot III from SWMBO's Golf V gtdi. No passenger side window and Streetpilot gone! We live in a small rural farming community and nobody saw or heard anything!

Called plod who came out the next day to look at the golf. No point taking fingerprints apparently. Policeman actually said that there was a well organised gang operating in the Stamford area (about 20m miles from us) following people who use stand alone Satnavs back to thier homes and stealing the units!

Our insurance company were happy to pay for the window to be replaced (less £50 excess) but said that because we hadn't informed them that we were using the unit in the vehicle, it was not covered! Where else would you use it?

The next diaster was Autoglass! They sent a fitter out on the saturday morning who was still drunk from the night before (to the point where he actually had to leave the job to go and throw up!!!). Not the best news really as a mkV Golf needs the outer dooskin taking off to replace the glass on the front doors (due to side impact bars)!!! This guy made such a mess of putting the doorskin back on that I refused to sign any paperwork.

So the car had to go to thier office in Leicester to be rectified. As you can imagine I was a bit stressed!

So to sum up;

Police and insurance not interested. (Despite the fact that Police said they could trace unit using satalites! - I think they were just trying to give us false hope).
Repairs shody.
Lost unit.

All in all we were down by about £500 and no one gave a stuff.

I even had a look in "Smack-converters" (I'm sure you know the high street chain to which I refer!) and on Ebay, but no luck.

What can you do?

They were making that one up. GPS receivers are just that, receivers. There are ways to trace them when they apear on the internet to get updates but even then I'm not sure its possible.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.
