Hi

I am fitting a basic 2 inch lift kit to my 87 rr V8, i then want some bigger tyres and new wheels

I have been quoted £330 for 04 machos 235/85/R16s on silver moduals.

These are speed rated to 87mph, is it ok to run these on the road due to the speed rating, do they invalidate the insurance?

If so what tyre would you guys recomend?

How about colway MTs, there Q rated which i believe are is ok for the rr

Suggestions please!

Maximum speed limit is 70!

You should inform insurance company of any changes you make to your vehicle otherwise the insurance is invalid anyway.

Colways used to be a big favorite of mine but the last set of AT's only lasted 12,000 which is not good.

speed rating has to cover the vehicles manufactureres top speed, not the speed limit on the road.
stupid really as none of us exceed 70mph!

Anybody know what is the top speed for an 87 rrc 3.5 v8 efi

does this mean i will not be able to fit the machos then?

all tyre carry a load to speed rating,not just a speed rating.
i.e 109h
or 94y

the number represents a mass in kilo's

tyre load ratings are overspecified as regards to the vehicle they're used on for many reasons
some examples
change in weather conditons
change in number of people in vehicle(some vehicles list different pressures)
luggage carried(some vehicles give different tyre pressures for this)

the tyre manufacturer has to be sure that the tyre can carry a certain load at a constant speed without collapsing while in use.

tyre manufacturers give a 5yr warranty against distortion or separation on their products if used correctly(correct tyre on correct vehicle).

machos are great

got a set of 225/75R16 on my RRC...and ive had nearly 95 (on a private road) with them on .....

With a 3.5 EFi I think the max speed was about 100 mph, give or take so a set of 235/70 Machos which are rated at 100 MPH should be ok.
