I today am green with envy!!  My best mate who is a radio dj on a rock radio station has recieved basically what is the holy grail to a Tom Waits fan.  A special edition promo (not a normal promo) of which only 100 were made of the new 3 cd album called orphans.

Now he likes Tom Waits, but i absolutely love Tom Waits so am suffering some green issues of late.

Is there anyone else who knows of or likes Tom Waits?  For those who dont know who he is, he is a singer/songwriter of extreme weirdness and also an actor.  He played the fly eating mad man in Bram Stokers Dracula.

Wouldn't mind a copy of that myself although swmbo would soon get her hands on it and it would never be seen again

Not heard a lot of Tom Waits, I do know of him though

The main tracks I've heard are such as;
RainDogs(?)
The Piano Has Been Drinking
In The Neighbourhood

Did he write 'Downbound Train', or was it Springsteen & Waits simply covered it??

I do like Leonard Cohen though (& Tindersticks)
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.

Tom Waits is fantastic, although he an acquired taste for his later stuff, if you can get hold of copies then its worth listening to albums like Closing Time which is very kind of jazzy based loungeroom sounding album, but its great to relax to at night, and then there is the Blue Valentine album which contains such choicely titled tracks like Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis!

But Raindogs is a brilliant tune, The Piano Has Been Drinking is also fantastic, i am gonna have to dig it out again, as its one hell of a tune.

Downbound Train was written by Bruce Springsteen but its still great :D

One album that would really scare you is Swordfishtrombones.  Thats got some seriously weird stuff on it.  But then on the contrast Used songs has a good mixture with my favourite track over all which is Heartattack and Vine.
