What do people do with regards alarms/immobilisers?

Also, and possibly more importantly, what would you recommend as secure storage for the back of a 90 Pickup?

I can't seem to find a window grill for a truck cab - they only seem to come in sets of three for a hard-top...

Anyone use a locking cubby box?

What about one of those contractor boxes? You can get ones from machinemart (for example) that bolt down to the floor and are quite big - they use them on the railways all the time for contractor equipment and they must be fairly effective as on the rails, if it ain't stuck down it disappears (and even if it is often!)

I'm thinking now...

Lockable cubby box which will house a radio http://www.mobilestoragesystems.fsnet.co.uk/store-caddy.htm
Lockable box for in the back (one that sits on the seat) like the last product on this page http://www.forgetec4x4.co.uk
Grill to cover the easily openable rear window
Steering and clutch lock
Alarm and immobiliser

Thatcham CAT1 alarm is a good start and not that expensive these days. I had a Toad AI606 fitted to my 110, my current 90 has factory fitted security.

I've bought a couple of ammo boxes - they're not very secure - The one's I got were the wrong sizes too (only £8 for two though!). Will have to pop to Malvern on saturday and see if I can pick up a more suitable one.

The vaults on MachineMart aren't that bad pricewise compared to the ones you linked to - £150 will get you a good one that'll hold a lot of stuff (and unlike the one you linked, that's including VAT). Sure it's more than an ammo box, but it's still a good price, and a known quality level as well.

I don't see the point in an Immobiliser on any Land Rover Diesel pre Td5 (excluding some late 300Tdi's).

All you need is a length of wire (two pieces if you don't want to push start it) and you can start it from under the bonnet (with a suitable 12v supply)

And any car thief will also know this  - So they would completely by pass any immobiliser set-up.

A Td5 isn't hard either..
I can get them started without keys or the alarm key fob in about 3 mins if I'm trying (with a standard LR alarm)... only thing left would have been to break the steering lock...
And before any one thinks wrongly off me... the cars are CAT B breakers so are usually supplied without keys and alarm fobs.

Stealing a non crashed one, without making any noise would take me a bit longer...

I'd personally invest in proper mechanical security items... I like the 'full metal jacket' pedal locks available from a few places (inc Kenson 4x4)
An alarm is useful as a deterrent, but how may people nowadays actually take notice when an alarm goes off??
Buy me another drink - you're still ugly!

I use a clutch claw for my 90 takes seconds to put on and extremely difficult to remove if no key.  Doesnt take up to much room and fits behind the bulk head when driving - bit pricey tho and 90 quid.
It made by a couple of different companies - might be able to get a cheap used one on ebay as is only a lump of steel.

Take away that 12volt supply and people will have difficulty.

Which I why I recomend an FIA battery master switch.
No supply under the bonnets and a locked battery box means no supply either.

Have you seen the Mech Lock from Mud Stuff? It stops the hydraulics to the clutch pedal so once you've removed the key from it, the next time the clutch pedal is depressed, it stays down and therefore you can't engage gear. Much better explanation on their website. Pretty expensive but may be worth a go.

Seems to me that storage for the back of a pickup is being cashed in on - I'm no fabricator myself but some of these products are a hell of a lot of money for what they are, until you get to the much heavier duty ones...
