The glass can certainly vary in thickness. We had a customer buy a screen seal for a Morris Minor from us. He complained it didn't seal properly. When we looked at the car, it turned out the screen was only 3mm thick   Apparently had a label on it as made in Taiwan! Can we not make *anything* in the UK anymore?

Of course, there is no guarantee that the 'genuine' one will be any better. Land Rover, like all others will buy from the cheapest source. When was the last time you actually got a Lucas part in a Lucas box? Or a Lockheed part in a Lockheed box? They are all buying from overseas now rather than making the stuff here.

Have to have genuine VAG glass in mine, have a damaged os windows (BIG score in it thanks to some chav who thinks its funny) No one else seems to be mad enough to make glass that bolts to the window regulator :)
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

But I'd almost put money on it that the component wasn't made in the UK. Lucas generally buy in items to fill their boxes. They manufacture very little themselves in the UK any more.
